SOTD : Saturday 19th October - Friday 25h October 2019.

Thanks for the info about your favourite Yaqis. The Rainbow has a faux horse knot and they are different fibres to the others, they seem to be thinner. I find it a good brush but if I was nitpicking it doesn't release the lather as well as some others, I find at the end of the shave it seems to hold onto lather in the middle of the brush a little more than my Yaqi synths.

I presume the Rex is a bit more on the efficient side of things? I've found Personna Reds and Crystals are a bit more on the efficient side of things, and I can just manage to use them for the mildest razors I own!
With the right blade, the Rex is efficient but smooth. I appreciate this is completely subjective but the Rex on #2 feels like a Fatboy on #5 for me. Strangely I've got the other feeling with the Personnas in that they feel like they're lacking the desired sharpness. I'm going to give a Treet Platinum a go in the Rex soon as I was impressed by that blade despite initially preparing myself for disappointment.

It could be down to a batch of blades you have. I've read Israeli Personnas really have some issues with consistency, with some being very good and others less so - the one I have isn't a million miles from a Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellow.

The Rex is a beauty of a razor for sure and good to hear it is smooth in the shave as well.

Brush - Omega 11819
Soap - Arko/RSC Cream
Razor - Ball End Tech
Blade - Viking Sword (7)
Post - Witch Hazel/Nivea Balm
AS - Eyup Sabri Tobacco

Not a great lather with the Omega 11819 & Arko today, halfway through building the lather it seemed I'd either didn't load enough soap or used too much and needed a bit of RSC shaving cream to get the lather to have a bit more protection but even though there was enough lather for 3.5 passes it was never a great one and seemed to lack cushion/protection at times. Still, I managed to finish the shave without picking any nicks/weepers so it wasn't too bad in the end!

Prep: Valobra Glycerlanolina soap, Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: Semogue Owners Club Boar
Soap: Phoenix & Beau Right Handed Giant
Razor: Mergress XL (2)
Blade: NOS Personna P74 Med Prep (9)
Post: Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel, Phoenix & Beau Right Handed Giant Post-shave Balm
Scent: Acca Kappa Green Mandarin

First shave with Phoenix & Beau's newly released soap Right Handed Giant. The scent is a tribute to Brut, and I enjoyed it very much. It still has that earthy backbone which seems a characteristic of most P&B soaps, but I think this works well with the fresh fougère notes typical of the original Faberge Brut. I also noted that the consistency of the soap seems a little firmer than my other P&B soaps. The artwork, true to form for Phonix and Beau, is terrific - who couldn't love a Brut-crazed Prometheus . Well done, Kerry and Sarah @phoenixandbeau.

I dialed the Mergress back slightly to 2 for this shave. Three effortless passes - the lather was very slick and protective. The matching Righted Handed Giant post-shave balm was delightful - the scent strength is just how I like balms - subtle but gently persistent, and it absorbed nicely into my skin to leave it smooth but with no greasiness. Rounded things out with that most extreme of citrus fragrances - Acca Kappa Green Mandarin.

Pre-shave:- Argan Oil soap
Bowl/Scuttle:- Black earthenware dish
Brush:- A very old Boots bristle brush
Soap/Cream:- Palmolive shave stick
Razor/Blade:- Gillette Tech and Shark (7)
Post/After-shave: Cocoa Butter/Lotion
Fragrance:- None

Seventh shave with the shark blade, still giving very good results.

The Palmolive Shave Stick is a superb product, gives me a close shave, especially when compared to the gel that I had been using.

Next blade is a Sainsbury product which I think are made by Dorco, I hope that it will be as good as the Shark

A post night shift shave. It was a bad night and a worse day. The eldest of our 3 dogs has been going downhill and was scheduled to visit the vet this afternoon. Unfortunately when I got up early afternoon he had already passed so the rest of the day was spent organising a cremation .

I decided to go for something simple this evening and ended up with a really nice 3 pass shave.

I give you my shave with the theme 'There is more to Bolton than Philomena Cunk'

IMG_20191021_202126.jpg

John Bolton's big moustache remover - Brass Colonial General
Bolt on - Kai Captain
Strap on - Razorock 400
Bolton Wanderers - Signature Soaps Hibernia
Wandering in Bolton - ADP Colonial Club

Other than a smashing soap company and a 'just in time concept' football club there is of course always going to be a Philomena Cunk and her quirky humour. I guess Bolton brings that out of people and I should know because I lived there in my past life. Well it certainly brought out the quirky side as I am utterly devoid of humour. Judging by the luck the Cerne Abbas Giant came blessed with, there is a man who didn't need humour to pull. In the term 'Past life' I am relating to this present visitation as I think my previous incarnation had me bearded and wandering around naked. Something I would happily do today if it wan't for the sake I'd be arrested and I am an active member of this anti-beard forum. And I have bought some trousers since then.

My shave...........

A really smashing turn out for the Stainless General and his trusty companion Captain Kai. Fed with that wonderful shaving lather they make in Bolton and then manage to store in a screw top tin there was only ever going to be one outcome. One heavenly shave and smoother than a 180ft tall man wielding two forms of weaponry.

To be honest this really was a blissful shave and feeling great for it. Throw in some ADP Colonia Club aftershave balm and their most delightful matching scent and I have to ask 'does life get better?'. I am sure it does but for the moment I shall enjoy thinking 'no it doesn't'.

Happy and smooth. And of course there is always going to be time for some beautiful and talented Japanese ladies

Vitos Super Red
RazoRock Disrupter 22mm synth
Face lather
Gillette Slim Adjustable (6)
Personna Med Prep #1
Alum
Thayer's Rose Petal and Aloe Vera
Proraso M&E
Styptic

Quite harsh tonight; especially against the grain on the upper lip (usually, I don't have problems there). I may need to dial the Slim down to 5. It's not a razor I use often. There's also operator error: a careless nick on the chin and one near the Adam's apple; the latter needing a bit styptic. But, aside from that, very smooth and soothed by the Proraso. I had toyed with using Eucris; but needed something cooling.
