Sotd - the 4th of July -

Razor - Gem Micromatic injector
blade - Schick vintage single (3)
soap - Fitjar Slatteroy cream - vegetarian
brush - Simpsons Chubby 1 - best
post - witch hazel
a/s - Nivea Sensitive - Cool
balm - Spanish almond oil moisturiser.

Result - great.

Yet another antidote shave to another shit day - becoming a bit of a theme this week. I have been making a concerted effort to shave more often - on track for 5 out of 7 - which would do me fine - I don't need - or want - to shave every day. My skin seems to be unaffected from the increase from 2 or 3 times a week - but to err on the side of caution - went for a vintage injector - the type of razor mildest in use for me. I like the Micromatic more the more I use it - it isn't going to win any beauty contests but it shaves very well indeed. Hadn't used Fitjar cream for a while - Slatteroy is their take on bay rum - not the usual - dense, complex and very nice to my mind - quite heavy on the clove element. I'm not 100% sure it justifies the asking price - but a top-end cream by any standard I would have thought. Job done - have excellent shaves - one and all - yours - I.

It's great that you have an antidote for a shit day but I still hope next week is a better one for you. P.

Thanks @Blackmass Rob for the kind gift of the toner. Really nice stuff indeed. Not sure why I left the ATT on the shelf for a while, but coming back from a mix of DE89 & cart shaves, it's made me realise how nice the ATT is

SOTD Wednesday 3rd July 2019. Why change a habit of a lifetime with my punctuality?

And for this very fine evening was one very fine shave with the theme of 'Black. The new black'

45334

A whiter shade of black - Black Blacklands Blackbird
A shade whiter than black - Polsilver Lodz
Polished aluminium. The new black - RazoRock 400 (The aluminium coloured black version)
A darker shade of white - Alvarez Gomez Barberia croap
Light black - Alvarez Gomez Barberia EDC
Black hole - Shaving accoutrements

I have no idea who invented black, but what a great person whoever it was. Without black we wouldn't have space, black holes, black paint, the Rolling Stones would have had one less hit song and black & white movies would have been very difficult to watch. Neither would we have the Black Blacklands Blackbird which just happens to be very black and one very fine razor. I am assuming like everything else which is available in an 'exclusive black finish' that it must be a superior product. The Ford model T being an exception and only available in black despite Henry's sense of humour in trying to dupe the public who possibly wanted a little more variety. From this one can conclude black must have been invented prior to 1908 and that the midnight blue Model T was a complete pile of rubbish.

Now here is a man with a very dim view on my theme

My shave

Armed to the teeth (or safety bar) with a Polsilver Lodz the Blackbird is one controlled act of aggression. It certainly demands respect and I am sure given the chance it would quite happily ruin your shave. Exercise care and attention (like every other shave) and one close and comfortable experience.

The Alvarez seems to be getting quite a bit of favouritism from me of recent but on this occasion there was a reason and with a bowl full of heavenly lather (created in less than 2 minutes please note) and it would have been sacrilegious not to use it. And why not? Throw on a good splash of their EDC just to experience that wonderful Alvarez scent and relive what a classy old barber shop must have been like. They may not have washed so often in the past, but shit they must have smelt good. Probably to make up for the lack of baths and personal hygiene.

One great shave and I went to bed feeling and smelling like I'd just arrived at the pearly gates and ready to join the party. About as much chance of that as something to do with freezing, Hell and over.

Be well all you people of TSR and over to a lady who has already seen the virtues of black razors
