Brush:- Omega 49 Boar
Soap/Cream:- GFT Spanish Leather cream
Razor/Blade:- Merkur 34C / Lord Shark Super Stainless (1)
Post-shave:- Thayers Cucumber / Nivea 2 Phase aftershave / Boots Bay Rum tonic

A really fine shave this evening. The Trumper's Spanish Leather cream isn't a firm favourite of mine however it continues to grow on me. The lather's performance is up there though.....the cushion and glide is top notch. Slickness is good too.

Likewise, the Shark blades are growing on me. They feel Feather sharp but without the irritation I get with the Feathers. Great performers!

Finishing off with the Nivea 2 Phase and Bay Rum tonic from Boots, my face feels refreshed. A simple 3 pass shave with a BBS result.

I guess when Max Cavalera sang 'Roots Bloody Roots' with Sepultura he must have been having a bad hair day and decided to pen some lyrics based on his annoyance with his retreating hair dye. Mind you I think everyday was a bad hair day for Max. What a band though.


This evening was all about 'digging up the dead' and going back to some of those early products which introduced me to DE shaving and opened up the can of shaving worms and a dwindling bank balance to boot.

First up being the Muhle R89 which was my first DE razor and I remember being impressed from its first outing. Nothing has changed. Other razors may get me closer but very few do it efficiently with this level of comfort and an almost impossible chance of being skinned alive. It is an absolute classic design and for anyone climbing on to the DE ladder I couldn't recommend it highly enough as a 'My first razor', and for many 'My last and only razor'. I can see every reason why.

I do occasionally use Feather blades in other razors, but in the context of the R89 I haven't met any other blade which feels so 'at home'. Even my reach for Polsilver Lodz doesn't carry the same sense of harmony here. Sharp as buggery and makes up for the mild stance of the 89 without making it a weapon of mass facial destruction. As a pairing brilliant. If I wasn't 'gear obsessed' I would happily join the ranks of the 'My last and only razor' brigade.

Not my first cream by a long shot, but my earlier purchases have long lived a death (Que?). However it was my first OSP cream and one of my first creams which moved me away from the mainstream. As good as my first outing and I did say that at the point at which my OSP's started running out I would curse Jame's. Still a long way to go but unfortunately I will only extract one more shave from this Barber Shop scent and so to live true to my word, 'Jame's @OSP I curse you'

I used to rave about the Muhle synthetic brushes until the day I met the Razorock Plissoft. Still a great little brush but to be honest it doesn't come close to the macho appeal of the 400. Slippery as hell in wet hands and all a bit 'meek and mild' for me. It did a job and after all these years I still don't understand this brush thing fully. One day, one day.

The Davidoff I bought years ago at a giveaway price in TJ Hughes and after an initial splash never really gave it a second look in. Until recently. Tried it a few days back and thought 'This isn't all that bad' which then progressed on to 'I actually really like this stuff' and then on to 'In fact I really really really like this stuff'. I won't go on anymore as I would just keep adding more 'really's' in, but you get my general thought. Cheap, cheerful and quite classy......really

A splash with some organic witch Hazel and a dab of L'Occitane Cade aftershave balm just to put a touching end to this evening's shave and nearly as smooth and as fine as these people.....
