The Ashes

Australia have called up two more bowlers into the squad for the second Test. Personally, I hope they keep Mitchell Johnson, because he served up some real "Buffet bowling" in this one, and England's batsmen duly helped themselves. When Australia's alleged main strike bowler would rather talk to the press about his latest tattoo than his bowling, and refuses to take the new ball (which exposes a bowlers' weaknesses), then you know they've got problems.

Ponting can no longer rely on the pace of Brett Lee, the accuracy of Glenn McGrath or the sheer menace of Shane Warne, and when their "attack" consists of some medium quicks who wouldn't give a County team any sleepless nights, a quick who's fragile in the head and a new spinner who doesn't actually turn the ball very much, they're going to be relying on their batsmen to score a heap of runs if they're to win matches. And England have better batsmen as well - we now bat down to number 9.

I'm looking forward to Adelaide. As, I suspect, is Andrew Strauss. Rather more than his opposite number.

Ian

Here we go again. Started listening to the radio in bed at 3am. Now it's tea and TV.

Sometimes I hate this addiction.

Former captain Vaughan gets the tone just right by dismissing Ponting's antics at the end of the highlights. "Get off the pitch"

Apparently Ponting ate here the other night.
