Is the scallop plate a gimmick or does it add to the efficiency/comfort of the shave?

Essentially the scalloped plate is a fancy solid bar. I find it to be smoother than the OC.

The Russian Leather sample lathered really well and with a slightly wetter mix felt very comfortable to shave with. Second impression is very positive indeed.

Today I tried a sample Cryogen put a spoonful in my scuttle felt that my lather as not stable, so a few turns with the Windsor which I used last time. Then I quickly got a nice lather!!

My 5 day beard did not have a chance against this Kotaat a very nice shave!!
