S.O.T.D. Saturday 30th August to Friday 5th September 2014

Muhle R41 (2013 version)
Shark Super Chrome Blade
Kent Infinity Silvertex Brush
Penhaligon's English Fern Shaving Soap (Old one with tallow)
Proraso Aftershave Lotion

Not used the English Fern soap for ages. Lathers very nicely with the Kent brush (as, seemingly, does everything), and the scent mixes nicely with the Proraso.

Friday 5th September

Pre: Hot wash with dove soap.
Cream: Ingrams
Brush: Vie-Long Horse.
Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (1)
Razor: 1966 Gillette slim Adjustable (4)
Post: Styptic, Alum, Lots of Nivea post-shave Balm, XBolt EDT.

OK that was different, haven't experienced a shave like this since I started out a few months ago. There were a couple of firsts and these combined with errors on my part.
1. I used a new cream - Ingrams.
2. I face lathered (first time)
3. Poor prep.
4. Rushed shave.

These combined with a brand new Astra blade gave one of the worst shaves ever. Lots of razor burn and one nick bad enough to require a styptic Match. I had to use the alum for the first time in weeks and I had to apply lots of Nivea Balm. Its OK now but still a little sore occasionally. I may buy some witch hazel when I go out today. Any suggestions for witch hazel or care of razor burn would be very welcomed at this time :p

Back to basics for next shave, Better prep, back to bowl lathering and concentration on technique.

ive come to the conclusion that aqua velva is the best aftershave in the world.

You could be right. Which colour/flavour have you been using?
Better than Speick AS?

ive been using the ice blue, i love it. glycerin, menthol and a clean comforting scent that doesnt overpower, great stuff.
i havent tried speick yet, so cant really comment on that. just spreading the AV love :)

Ok, so the Speick AS will have to go on your wish list :icon_rolleyes:

AV Ice Blue seems similar to their Original Sport (green) but their Musk (yellow) is something else!
