S.O.T.D. Saturday 12th April to Friday 18th April 2014

SUNDAY EVENING

Pre: Hot rinse, Prep massaged into beard
Soap: Mike's eucalyptus and lemongrass
Brush: Coates Fitzwilliam
Razor: Cobra Classic
Blade: Feather Proguard
Post: Witch hazel, IK balm

A while since I've used the Plisskin and a brand new Proguard blade too. A very light touch required but a very close shave at the end.

I am going to amend this based on the morning's shave. When I got this Plisson it was new but in a group of purchased items (unidentified). When going to the Plisson website and comparing this brush visually and various other forum responses, I was sure that this was European White due to the banding and colorations. After cleaning, soaking (with the associated big bloom) and using it, the brush seems scritchy and the coloration has toned down a bit. So now I am wondering if this is European Grey instead of European White. If there are any Plisson experts that can help to narrow down the identification it would be appreciated.

Quick ten minute shave last night and left with total smoothness. After using the Pure and Boar brushes for so long I'd forgotten how luxurious the Silvertip is, if only it was a bit smaller!

Prep: Hot shower, Dove Men+Care Sensitive Face Washg
Pre: Tepid Water Splash
Brush: Morris & Forndran Blonde Badger Beehive
Soap: Tabac Stick grated into a bowl
Razor: Gem Micromatic OC
Blade: Gem Blue Star #1
Post: Alum, Floïd "The Genuine" ASL, Kiehl's Ultimate ASB
Fragrance: Floris Elite

Result: Wow. My god this was a good team - Morris & Forndran brush met every expectation I had. The Tabac was superb - slick, cushioning, plentiful. And the Gem Blue Star was a revelation. Two passes on a two day growth and I was as smooth as a billiard ball. Wonderful. A great start to Easter week.

All the best

Jon

Monday

Gillette Fusion ProGlide
Semogue 620 Boar Brush
Institut Karité Shaving Soap
Provence Sante Green Tea Aftershave Lotion

A couple of purchases from Retro Grooming (IK and Provence Sante). Great service, by the way.

There was a thread a little while ago about YMMV, where I was openly critical of the IK soap. It was jumped upon by a couple of people that didn't understand why and that the soap was all kinds of awesome.

So, I decided to try it again, and indeed, it does appear to be better than I remembered.

polsilver si (2)
fs pur tech
ingrams cream
alcohado glacial/witch hazel mix
Kouros "tribute" a/s

final outing for the black tip - a decent razor that does the job. It didn't turn my head especially but i'll keep it in the arsenal and return to it in the future. The pur tech continues to impress - i face lathered this morning and it did the job well.

Minty fresh :)

Prep: Dove face wash
Cream: L Occitane Cade
Brush: Edwin Jagger Chatsworth ebony synthetic bristle
Razor: Edwin Jagger Chatsworth barley chrome with Merkur 25c base top plate
Blade: Shark super stainless
Post: L Occitane Cade.

I don't get on that well with the EJ head at the moment so I use the top plate from a Merkur razor which makes the razor heavier overall but feels better to use.
