Merkur 34G
Silver Blue (2)
Kent Luxury shaving soap

Proraso A/S

I only went upstairs to do a test lather with my new gear, but ended up having a quick 2 pass shave as I couldn't resist.
Very nice it was too.

Christmas Shave

Prep: Hot shower
Pre: Proraso preshave - sensitive
Soap: TOBS St.James Collection cream
Bowl: Woodhead Pedestal
Brush: MÜHLE Kosmo silvertip synthetic
Razor: Progress @3, 2.5, 2
Blade: Sputnik (2)
After: Aqua Velva Sport AS, Every Man Jack lotion

This St. James cream was the very first "proper" cream I bought when I started DE shaving and SWMBO bought it me for Xmas this year. It's the only cream/soap I ever finished; mainly because I had only one or two creams at the time. Great to experience that scent again, sublime!

Merry Christmas folks.

Ahhhhh .... at last ... Christmas shave.

DSC04115.JPG

I went with the following, in the end ...

T&H Ultimate Comfort PSO
The Soap Opera 'Himalaya'
Pure Badger 23mm
GEM Featherweight
GEM Stainless PTFE [2]
Hot Rinse, Cold Rinse, Alum Wash & Witch Hazel
Alcolada Glacial

Two Pass - 2x WTG

What a great shave! Closer than I would have imagined, given the razor, blade and technique, but close. Very close.

The T&H PSO is an expensive way of buying cooking oil! I reckon I could make up a litre or more from carrier and essential oils for the price of this tiny 60ml bottle, but boy is it good? Much enjoyed.

First run with this razor and I liked it. Not as clean or as close as a Micromatic from this shave, but very tactile, agile and intuitive.

Alcolado Glacial is ... GLACIAL! I love it! Very addictive ...

I used a combination of my travel kit and some new soap:
  • Proraso preshave
  • Trumpers violet soap / Vie Long horsehair (last year's secret Santa gift!)
  • Merkur Futur / Rapira Supersteel
  • Barbershop Bay Rum aftershave (the Christmas pudding of aftershaves)
  • Boots no. 7 balm
Not the best shave, but I tend to have mixed results with the Futur. Loved the new soap though - can't beat the smell of Parma violets in The morning!

Gillette NEW - twin pin
Derby Extra (1)
Muhle Silvertip Fibre, v1
Vitos Extra Super Coconut
Penhaligon's English Fern

Broken through to the bottom of the Vitos. Still a while to go before I move on to finishing up my Stirling Anise sample.

Commando travel razor (acquisition from yesterday) with Gillette Silver Blue
Edwin Jagger boar
Speick shaving cream
Floid Vigorosso a/s

Superb. Lovely little razor with telescopic handle and two combs - one for 'standard' and one for the second pass.

Boxing day!
Prep: Hot shower, followed by Neutrogena Razor Defense Face Scrub
Pre: Village Barber oil
Soap: Martin de Candre "Regular"
Brush: Simpson Tulip-1 (Super)
Razor: Weber PH head on iKon handle
Blade: Rapira stainless (2)
Post: Thayer's Original witch hazel
AS: Village Barber balm

First time with MdC, I built enough lather for a 10-pass shave! Wow! The MdC lathered better than I expected. It almost has a menthol cooling effect.
This photo was taken AFTER I was done shaving. Lovely 3-pass BBS.

Thursday 26th December
Boxing Day shave

SOTD261213_zpsdc4d7dc1.jpg

Hot shower
Hot flannel
T&H Grafton cream scuttle lathered
Simpson Milk Churn best badger brush
Gillette 1961 Aristocrat adjustable on 4-5-6
Cold rinse
Thayers Lavender witch hazel
Old Spice Sensitive aftershave

A fine comfortable shave I 've brought out the Aristocrat adjustable for a day or two. It's a while since I used it, I kept opening up the razor after each pass, tomorrow will be on 6 throughout. The Grafton was easily whipped up in the scuttle to give a mountain of lather.
This morning I had a walk to see the Grenoside long sword dancers who dance outside the pub every Boxing day, an old tradition there.
