Saturday xiv September, 2013

Prep: Shower, Arran Aromatics Peppermint & Eucalyptus glycerin soap
Pre: Cold water splash
Brush: Thäter 4125/2
Soap: Tcheong Fung Sing Tabacco Verde Intenso
Razor: Digress HD
Blade: Personna Lab Blue #1
Post: Thayer's Medicated WH, Institut Karité ASB

Result: Very nice, relaxing early evening shave. The TFS performed well but may need a little extra use to release its full potential. Fragrance is sublime, subtle yet strong, fresh and invigorating. Most pleasing. First time with a Lab Blue and I concur with the opinion of many in this place that it is so close to the Personna Med Blue that the extra price of the Med is not justified.

All the best, gents. See you on Monday.

Jon

In fairness the Fatboy isn't always the easiest to get BBS with, it's head shape can be a little awkward IMO. There maybe a better DE out there for you.

Before giving up on that razor, try a Feather blade and see if that doesn't help in some way. Worth a shot.

Prep: Hot shower
Brush: Vie-Long
Razor: Dubl Duck made by Puma, scales by Max Sprecher
Cream: Dr Harris Windsor
AS: Myrsol Metisol
Result: Uberclean :D

This cream has the loveliest scent and the blade's fantastic, one of my top five shavers and when all was said and done I had myself a fantastic weekend shave :D Dear Dr D, that brush looks amazing - I'm a sucker for old barber handles and the colors makes my head spin, in a good way :D

Sunday 15th September

Brush: Semogue 1305
Soap: Proraso green tub
Razor: EJ89 Barley
Blade: Supermax Blue Diamond (2) single shim
Post: Witch Hazel, Floid Vigoroso

A good shave. Not as comfortable as the first with this blade, but a good result none the less. The Proraso combined with a chilly start here, is prompting me to hide the menthol soaps and creams until it's warmer again!!

Greetings

Sunday 15th September 2013
Prep: Shower
Razor: Schick 66 Injector (G4)
Blade: Personna Stainless Coated
Brush: Vie Long Horse
Soap: Tabac Stick grated
Aftershave: Astral Cream (light)

Superb shave. I seemed to have cured the 'doughnuting' of this brush (possibly only temporarily) by teasing out all the bent and twisted hairs in the centre of the knot with a bodkin. It would appear to me that these horse knots will not withstand any 'mashing' onto the skin and need to be used very gently, this together with the very stiff prickly hairs deep within the knot result in a less than perfect brush IMHO.

Regards
Dick.

Prep: Hot shower
Pre: Proraso pre-shave - sensitive
Soap: TOBS Sandalwood cream
Brush: MÜHLE Kosmo silvertip synthetic
Bowl: Woodhead Pedestal
Razor: R41 + Weber Bulldog handle
Blade: Rapira SS (1)
After: Barbershop Bay Rum, Proraso ASB

Things are improving all the time with my new R41, maybe my technique is getting better or maybe my blade choice is more compatible.

Brought out the TOBS sandalwood cream again, originally I thought I'd reacted to this cream but now I don't believe I do. No reaction problems at all and what a great scent.

Blade choice is the best so far with the R41; much more comfortable during the shave and no irritation afterwards. This could be my winning combination.
These are my blade findings with the R41 over the past week (in chronological order):
  • Sputnik - Uncomfortable, tuggy and irritation afterwards
  • Feather - More comfortable, less tuggy, great BBS but quickly dulled
  • Rapira SS - Easiest shave, no irritation, good BBS

Sunday

MdC
Mason & Pearson Pure
Gillette Superspeed
Gillette Made in England Vintage Blade
Zirh Post Shave
Pens Castile

Superb shave , the Gillette SuperSpeed and Gillette blade are a great combo. Zirh is my current favourite as it has a great consistency. I know, I know that Mason and Pearson is a big fluffy one but sometimes, just sometimes I like a fluffy brush.
