Phoenix and Beau update

I tried Wickham 1912 today, it was nice but nothing special. Don't get me wrong I'm happy to use it but I prefer P&B Albion or Spitfire
I will be trying wickham in the coming weeks there is just lots to choose from. What is the basis when looking for a good artisan soap as in texture etc.

Hello everyone,

Well I have an update for you all in that we're busier than ten men developing a new core soap (more on that in a moment), preparing our next seasonal soap (Star Noir) for its September release, finalising the scent for 'Baskerville' (October) and preparing our range of after shave tonics and solid cologne (tbc & September respectively).

Oh, that and we're also reviewing our jars (we want to use more substantial ones) and the artwork for Citra Royale, Sanskrit and Solaris. The thinking on the latter is that we'll be enhancing them in order to make them as striking as Spitfire and Albion.

So I said Sarah and I were busy, right? :)

Joining the full time ranks of our core soaps will be a classic bay rum scent that I just had to introduce (date tbc). Being a massive fan of the scent I have a wonderful blend of lime, bay, orange, cinnamon, benzoin and real dark rum. The prototypes are currently labelled as 'Imperial Rum' and it's is a cracker!

Outside of this we busy ourselves doing our best to keep up with direct and stockist orders and we'd both like to extend a MASSIVE thank you to all of our customers, be they direct via our website or through any of our awesome stockists. Thank you to everyone!

It's a wonderful problem to have but we genuinely struggle to keep up with demand. We're reviewing our systems and are working hard to be efficient as possible. What this needs to be considered against however is the running of a busy family household (our girls are both under 6) and my full time job outside of PB. Sarah does some freelance work also and so you might say we are spinning many plates :) Our aspiration is that, one day, we'll both able to commit entirely on PB and have no extraneous factors that impinge on our time.

The trials and tribulations of trying to effectively grow your own fledgling company and all.. :)

So that's about everything for now save to say that we might well welcoming our 10th (and 7th international) stockist, the Greece based 'HairMaker.gr' (Hi Giannis!). We'll keep you posted on this front. In the interim, if you've any questions, suggestions for core range scents or other products you'd like to see introduced please drop either Sarah or myself an email at kerry (or sarah)@phoenixandbeau.uk

With kindest regards,

Kerry.
Baskerville...really intriguing. Will this be able to purchase on/after Hallowe'en, even after the pre-orders, Kerry?

Thanks,

Stephen

Evening all,

Sorry for my absence of late. Work (my other work, that is) has rather rudely intervened and left me no time to catch up on my social media commitments. Sarah and I have also been slammed with a self-imposed schedule which has covered the release of Star Noir and pre-release for Baskerville. It has been a superb month for Phoenix and Beau but boy, you've kept us busy!

Our warmest thanks to each and every one of our customers. You are the life blood of our company and without you there is no Phoenix and Beau.

On top of the above mentioned craziness we also build towards Christmas and I'm working on a few other things for everyone's enjoyment. More on that further below but first, answers to some PB questions that have been asked around the interweb of late.

  • "Any news on dispatch?" - Sarah has spent the last few days fulfilling Star Noir orders and all of them were dispatched by yesterday. That is unless you ordered one along with a Baskerville pre-order, in which case that won't go out to you before week commencing 24th October. The pre-order mechanic allows us to qualify how many to make on top of our stockist orders. It gives us a solid number to work with and then we make additional stock that we make available on our shop. We sold out of Baskerville in under seven hours and have made 250 available via our network of excellent stockists.
  • "Any hidden yet subtle gems in the scent profile"? Yes ................................

Oh, I'm sorry. You wanted me to share? :D:D:D

  • I'll give you a clue, two words. Iso. Chroman.. :ninja: The profile is floral, it's sweet, it has clarity, softness, dryness and moves around during the shave. For me it opens with jasmin (which is very quickly backed up by ylang ylang). Brief crispness follows via the inclusion of coriander, sage and bergamot before it vanishes in to the warm and soft heart of the scent, the balanced amounts of amber, sandalwood and patchouli. But hey, that's my olfactory experience and far be it for me to tell you what you will or won't detect in Star Noir. As the scent designer at PB it's one of my most favoured elements of the whole process. Reading reviews and comments on my soaps scents is a genuine joy :woot:.
So those "few things" we're working on for you.

  • I have a post shave tonic in prototype phase that has a sophisticated herbal, botanical and adaptogenic formula. Testing has gone well and I'd like to share the base (unscented) formula with you. I'd like honest, objective and constructive feedback, please. Who would like a sample?
  • The same post shave tonic, how would you like it scented? A range of new scents or aligned to our current core offerings? Please bare in mind that our target is to have it ready for Christmas and time is very much a limited commodity at PB Headquarters. We want to make it available alongside our solid cologne, which leads me neatly on to, um, solid cologne..
  • Like our tonic we have Christmas as our solid cologne release date. Our scents are, in the main, complex and expensive to have cosmetically assessed and so we have to weigh this in to our considerations. If you had to pick three of our scents which ones would you want included in our line of solids?
  • We have been asked by customers if we have anything in the pipeline for those amongst us who like to wear a beard? The quick answer is yes. We will be offering one beard conditioning oil that will be classically scented with an accord of juniper, pine, vetivert, cedarwood, sandalwood and frankincense. Grounding and of the outdoors. It's lovely. No time line for this as of yet but it is ready to go. We just have bigger priorities to have in place before hand.
Right best dash, Sarah has just caught me away from the lab-desk and cracked the whip!:D. Questions, suggestions and answers as and when you have the time, folks.

With kindest regards,

Kerry.

Sounds awesome, hoping Star Noir arrives in the post tomorrow for the weekend.

Did I see an opening for aftershave testing/samples? ;) if so, yes please!

As for solid cologne... Spitfire for sure, Citra Royale. Any chance of an Obsidian one too?

keep it up Kerry and Sarah, great stuff.

I'd love to try a sample of the post-shave tonic if you're looking for testers.
As for what scents to do for solid cologne? I'd possibly (I haven't smelt it yet) go for some Blackstar as the Minotaure has been reformulated and is quite weak by all accounts so there is a gap there and who wouldn't want to smell like Bowie! I think Spitfire would also be a good shout as this appears to be well loved by many.
