Most emotive track

Neil diamond - 'Morningside'
Jules Massenet 'Meditation' from Thais
They do it for me every time.

And a more recent find which I think is just incredibly beautiful is:
Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu - Gurrumul. Tracks: Bapa, and Wiarthul. This guys got an amazing voice and melodies that just 'touch' you,, well me anyhow.

regards, beejay

Whilst I know what you all mean, I rather dislike Cash's "Hurt" because it casts such a pall over all the light hearted stuff. The one that I'd like to remember him by is "When The Man Comes Around" or whatever it's called.

Anyway, most emotive track? Probably some old blues by a long dead dude like Furry Lewis, Fred McDowell or Son House - there's too may to choose from - or maybe John Fahey doing "Poor Boy Long Ways From Home". In the kick ass mode, Black Flag's first record still does the business.

I too see where all the feeling for Cash's version of Hurt comes from but on the LP (not CD) version of that album there is a cover of the Jimmy Webb/Glan Campbell song Witchita Lineman and it is by far the absolute best track that has been recorded during those "American" sessions.

Have to admit that Mike & The Mechanics' The Living Years makes me wobble rather. The bit where his dad dies. Totally not my kind of music but I do listen to Radio 2 sometimes and of course it is played occasionally.

Played at Wigan where i spent the best part of 30plus years watching them with me dad who passed away last march,so when i hear it now reminds me of him..

Try cranking up "The Pearl Fishers' Duet"(Bizet) on You Tube. I like the Bocelli version but YMMV as they say. I can't understand a word they say but - by hell - it grabs you a bit.

Go on, give it a whirl...

:)

EDIT: I've just watched it through, and it's now playing again. It's the Bocelli / Bryn Terfel live version from the RAH. These two guys can sure do the do and in some style. Awesome! It's been a while since I have seen it; this should be compulsory on a daily basis, perhaps whilst shaving. :D

This does it for me every time; at the time I was introduced to this, the sad case of the little Italian boy who fell down the well at the bottom of his garden was on the news every night. They tried dropping a dwarf down, they tried drilling a parralel shaft, all to no avail. They dropped yoghurt and bananas down, and a mike....his voice was beamed across the world crying 'mama, mama'. His poor mother was at the top of the well through all this, totally helpless to do anything. This always sums up for me the way she must have been feeling.
