I going to try giving up smoking...Again

I've been cig. free since August 1994, i.e. over 21 years. It wasn't easy and I had many false starts, but I got there finally by doing it "cold turkey". Since then I haven't been able to stand the smell of cigs and I can't understand how I smoked them for 18 years in the first place. In my case it was really mind over matter.

Looks like I opened a can of worms here whilst I was absent...

I know my case is slightly different than most 'case study' users,as I have not smoked a pre rolled cigarette from a packet since 1990-1,only hand rolling,or pipe tobacco,so I think, for me it is/was more psychological.I actually think I miss the (ritual) reassuring 'click' of my Zippo lighter, more than the actual nicotine itself.
One thing I am not missing is the expenditure. The E-cig's,vaporiser,and E-liquids have already paid for themselves twice over now.
I don't think I could have made two weeks without 'vaping' though.
So.for me,the vaping is a means to an end.I know I will be able to give that up too, once I know I have totally lost the urge to smoke a real one,and I don't think that will take too long for me to get to that stage, some time in the new year I imagine.

Thanks for all the positive input guys!.
:D

Yesterday was one whole week for me of vaping only. It was reading this thread that made me do it so credit to Dr T.
Well done buddy!.
I ended up buying a 88 Vape Vaporiser,as Mrs DT,who is also giving up,sort of commandeered my JAC Vapour E-Cig's!...
It was only £6,and it holds double the amount of liquid, and the battery lasts a lot longer to boot.
I actually prefer it to the more expensive JAC Vapour version.
Also, the 99p E-Liquids seem to be the same viscosity as the JV VG liquids, and I personally prefer the 'super mint' to anything else I have tried so far.
The pen and liquids arrived in a couple of days too!.
I got it from here....

A proper bargain!.

Considering the OP's health problems and his need to stop smoking I'd say this isn't the place for arguments about ecigs.
e-cigs on prescription and you can't get a hip replacement for years? Yeah, yeah, harm reduction, but still...

See how I have resisted adding anything about the cost of bombing places beginning with S but you can't get the same hip replacement for years?

" Resisted ", well, yeah, sure. Ever so glad you made that effort my gr8ly liked Big Bro ! I'm being just as strong willed about flood defences for some of my fellow citizens in Cumbria.

In 1999 the old man died in my lap after coughing his lungs up and then suffocating on his on blood, not a particularly nice way to go but that's what a lifetime on the weed can lead to. I eventually kicked the habit going cold turkey, it's not for everybody but I cut out the triggers so no socialising, no booze and no coffee for three months.

Thanks J, I actually started up again soon after my father's death but yeah although it's an everlasting memory I'd rather live without ultimately it led to me finally giving up.

My sympathy's go to all it may concern, do what it takes.

Well done Dr.T. if you're still not smoking. And if you have relapsed, what with the thread going a little quiet and all, then don't get too downhearted - failure is a minor setback on the way to success. I'm jumping the gun here though and you may well be so use to not smoking that this thread has now slipped your mind.

I've never been a smoker. My cousin introduced me to one in the alley round the back of my Uncle's house and I nearly spewed my lungs up. Hating it was the best introduction I could possibly hope for. SWMBO does smoke though and it's the one real issue I have with her. That said, every time she mentions me buying more shaving stuff or plants for the very overcrowded garden I can just smile and tell her it's less than the cost of her cigs.

Mine would claim that fags don't clutter the bathroom. Anything that isn't hers is clutter, apparently.

Sorry guys, been laid up for the last two weeks with some evil flu/migraine/sickness bug that has totally knocked me for six.
I spent all of Christmas day under a duvet, shaking with cold, whilst sweating gallons, and that has been one of the better days!.I managed to eat some turkey and cranberry sauce yesterday, but REALLY paid for it today....If you know what I mean...!.
Today, after flushing the 'innards', I am finally feeling a bit better,so caught up with my PM's (Thanks guys!),and just thought I would say on this thread,I will be back as soon as I feel more recuperated!.
As far as the smoking is concerned.......
Nope!,no ciggies so far!....Non at all!.
TBH,I have totally lost ANY urge to smoke now, maybe being as sick as a pig over the last 2 weeks has helped!,but whether it be vaping,or being laid up in bed,I am not sure, but I can go all day, without the 'urge' to smoke now!.I know myself well enough to know I will never start on the baccy again,so no problems there!.
It is now just the case of lowering the nicotene content in the e-juices,which I have already done...
From 2.4mg,down to 1.8mg and lower,so I am pretty pleased with myself TBH!.
For Christmas,Mrs DT bought me a really nice 'sub ohm' vaporiser kit...An Innokin Cool Fire 4 plus, with a isub apex tank (this)...

And I have to say, even with the Poundland 88Vape E-juice,this thing is amazing!,I am now looking to get some 'proper' E-Juice!.
Anyway,6 weeks on Monday guys!,and all going VERY well!.There may well be a couple of extra years in the old dog yet!.....;)
