Bread...something new.

Your oven will be hot enough, pre heat on max for 30 mins with container, follow the instructions, have a look at the vid, you will be fine, your wife will think you are a god, your kids will loose their milk teeth quickly and you will never buy artisanal/rustic bread ever again.

Hey guys,

Saw this:

Basic breadmaker for 14 quid. I guess you could pick up a much better one on offer for 30-40 quid. But for 14 quid, it can't be that bad (touch wood). Hopefully it's a stepping stone for me to oven-baking in the future. According to the posters on the thread, you can make pizza doughs, tomato bread, cheese & onion bread, jams etc.

If interested, best thing to do is ring 3-4 of the bigger 'local' (be prepared to travel) branches and ask them if they or other brances has them in stock. Ring that branch and tell 'em to reserve you one

OR

that you will come at closing time incase the reserved one's haven't sold, which means you can have 'em.

That's what I did. Though, I didn't realise how far Staines (lol, what a name) was from our place (12 miles but 30 mins+ of driving). Store closed at 8pm and I got through the doors 2 mins before closing. Felt like I needed an ambulance as I ran the whole length of the massive car park to make it in time. Picked one up, took it home and hid it. Will re-appear in a few weeks for my dad's b'day

I really hope it ain't shit. He's the kinda guy who only buys the best stuff; he's a chef (not a pastry/bread chef).

Sorry I couldn't post this earlier. Bit crazy round here at the mo, and we got rid of our broadband. I was setting up this USB dongle thing on SWMBO laptop and it's a pain, and like my running, rather slow.

On my way out of Currys last night in Staines, I rang SWMBO to see if she wanted anything as there were plenty of shops around the Shopping Center. Her response?

"Can you pick up a loaf of bread please?"

Cheers

Sonny

Sonny, I know your young and impressionable so I'll take it easy.

Do you really think that with your dad being a chef and "only buying the best stuff" he'd appreciate that low grade Metal Mickey you just bought?

Secondly you posted it on a thread that is about making bread by hand using traditional techniques FFS, you might as well be plugging a Braun electric razor.

Thirdly the MSE site is full of loons and best avoided, come to us for gift advice next time.

I quite like kneading, what's wrong with kneading.

Forgive me for not reading all the replies but what's the texture like? I can only imagine that this sort of method would produce a rather airy fairy quite dry loaf.
