Shaving too complicated

I find that shaving is basically boring so making it an artform rather than a chore and constantly buying new stuff is what it takes to keep me groomed :)

Hopefully i will stop buying new stuff, but i agree that the main problem is boredom. However, for me, the easiest way against that, is rotate many blades (i think i am at 14 now). I have found that when you shave constantly with the same blade, you adapt to it. You shave well, but you will have more trouble switching to a different blade. Keeping many blades in rotation, keeps things interesting and keeps you in your toes. Today, i nicked myself with Derby Premium at shave #2. Last time was about 5 months ago. I underestimated it, because shave #1 was uneventful, so in shave #2 i started putting more pressure. That's the most boredom-killing part that i 've found in shaving. Because, shaving with your favourite blade every day, isn't much of a challenge and you become complacent. Shaving with 14 blades, keeps you trainning and keeps boredom away. :D

Personally, i do have developed a fear about zamak, because of the many reports i 've read in Amazon.
Zamakophobia! I've heard it all now.
Good grief. Buy a zamak razor. It might fall apart after a bunch of years if you treat it badly. Then you buy another one. Repeat. After 50 odd years your stainless steel razor will be better value... For those 50 years you didn't get the great shaves your zamak razor would have given you. Stainless steel is sooo overrated. My favourite razors are made from sheet metal and plastic... (1912, Schick H1).

A 1912 costing what they do even for one in immaculate condition is always going to be hard to beat :) but it's fun trying! P.

Well, that's what i did, only i bought spares preemptively. The biggest factor that i have found in how the shave will go and how the blades will work, is the razor. Who knows if i will be able to find the same razor 5 or 10 or 15 or 30 years from now... So i bought spares already. The stainless might be overrated, but IMHO only if it doesn't work so well on your face. For example, in my case, the DE89 seems to work slightly more smoothly than the Weishi with any blade i tried. Not much difference, but there is a little. The Baili (Tech clone), doesn't work as well as neither. For some reason, maybe because it bends the blade differently, feels "rougher". A stainless DE89 would have worth the money for me. A stainless Baili no. So, i think things might depend on the situation. I understand your meaning though.

EDIT: Because, i don't even intend to go on an endless quest for the "perfect razor" either. I found 2 razors that work for me, i will stick with them and become expert with them. With the DE89, every time i dropped it, i had to think "great, let's see if it's still in 1 piece". At least with the Weishi you don't get to worry about that and it's already something.

A good razor is a good razor no matter what it is made from, stainless steel is so yesterday anyway....... Copper is the new kid on the block! :) P.

It's a good razor, until you drop it and it breaks, at which point it's a good but broken razor. :D:D:D The problem is that the only brass 3 piece razor that i am aware of, is Fatip, which though 1) isn't really mild, even in its mildest model, 2) doesn't look pretty to me at all, despite all the good will because of its origin.

Anyway, zamak is good while it lasts. Brass is better. Frankly, i wish there was a brass TTO with the DE89 head. This would solve many things. :p

I love my brass razor's it must be said. I've never dropped a razor, I tend to keep a good grip on them especially my straight's, I like my toes where they are. :)P.

If you want a brass razor that is mild then look no further than the Hone type 15. A wonderful razor.

I 've dropped the entire razor once and twice the cap only. Unfortunately i have the habbit of dismantling the razor and cleaning it with dishwashing soap after every shave (so that i don't have to do toothbrush scrubbing on it when it gets all gunked up) and i get slippery hands.

Besides, it seems that it doesn't need too much effort. From Amazon reviews :
- "It breaks like glass. It lasted 1 month".
- "Very fragile product (it broke at the first drop)".
- "6 months after use it broke".
- "During the phase of blade changing, the threaded pin broke neatly, making the razor useless".
- "the razor slipped inside the sink from 10cm high...and disintegrated".
- "After 1 year, the threaded pin broke".
From similar model here:
2 DE89 KO in 12 months (6 months apart from each other), with problem at the pin:

ref=cm_cr_arp_d_hist_1

- "The razor immediately broke after the first shave".

Frankly, i have more faith in the Weishis. But they are not immortal either, i have read that they can die due to problem in the tto mechanism. Still, at least i can drop them.

I too dismantle and clean, dry and put away after every shave and yet I still have never dropped a razor, must just be lucky! :) P.

Funny look. Reminds me of Futur. However, even if i wanted it, i 've never seen it here. Ordering 80+EUR razor from USA and having to deal also with the local customs and posts? No, thank you. I already have 1 russian package with blades and 1 chinese with Yaqis in a limbo. One hasn't updated the tracking since Nov16 and the other since Nov19. I am burned out. I think i am done with these international orders for good. I wanted a 2nd Yaqi best badger as spare. Right now i am so sick of the mail adventures, that i 'd rather buy a 2nd EJ pure badger from Amazon at the same price. Maybe i will change my mind after some months...
