Super Smooth V2 Testers needed

Wow, that was a very different experience from the last sample!

For the scent, I had a smell of both. The Russian Leather has a lovely scent, not overpowering at all, but very clear. My missus had a quick sniff and immediately said it was Imperial Leather. The Lemon was a bit odd, though. I think I'm with cruciate on citronella, it's a bit like a candle used to keep insects away! So I went with the Russian Leather today.

I've used a Vulfix 404 and a Yuma razor with a Gillette 365 blade. The Yuma's quite an aggressive razor.

The soap lathered up quite easily, taking on quite a bit of water. I did 4 passes and the lather was completely stable. I don't normally do that, but it was going well, so why not, eh?

There's a thread here about rinsing between passes. I always do that and the rinse after the 1st pass tells me a lot about the soap. It's got to be fairly bad to drag at all on the 1st pass (WTG), but when I rinse I can feel how well it glides. The 2nd pass (XTG) can drag quite a bit on my cheeks. The was fantastic, with plenty of glide.

Protection as well was excellent. After the other test, I had quite a bit of redness and the alum block stung. This time there was no redness and only a tickle from the alum.

My skin feels pretty good afterwards as well. Overall, I'd say this soap's excellent!

The only downside was my aftershave disaster. I thought this deserved the vintage Imperial Leather. No glasses while I put it on and I knocked the bloody bottle over, with its silly long neck. Doesn't look like I spilled much but I'm still annoyed about it.

I understand what you are both saying with regards to the lemon, I am going to stick with Lemon Cool and rework the scent to pick up on the more lemon notes. I had a shave the other night and thought the menthol needs to be lifted more, odd as I have put 3 times that than the Royal Mint. I think one of the conditioning oils is hindering it, so will do some tests with it to determine what is the culprit.

Good feedback guys keep it coming please and have a great weekend. :)

Wickham Super Smooth V2 Russian Leather - Shave #1

MÜHLE 33K257 synthetic brush
Wickham Super Smooth V2 Russian Leather
Bunny V3
Chinese Schick blade (4)
Old Spice Fresh Lime ASL

I transferred the sample into a small plastic bowl for easier loading. The soap is quite soft and I probably loaded a bit much. I face lathered today and a decent amount of added water later I easily ended up with copious amounts of great looking lather. There can be no complaints about slickness or cushion. The Bunny V3 was just skating through the lather as it should. Once the lather was removed the skin felt very, very slick. The shave was as close as can be. Blooming marvellous.
The scent is rather old fashioned and quite pleasant. Not exactly my normal style, but I don't mind the scent at all. It's quite noticeable but not overly so. Just the right strength for my taste. I definitely prefer it over the Garden Mint.
Post shave my face is smooth and relaxed, the skin feels soft and supple. Overall this is a soap that I would happily use on a regular basis. Good one.

Just to check in now that the next samples have arrived. I'll be shaving in the morning with one of them, probably Russian Leather.

Initial scent test is that I prefer the Russian Leather to the Lemon Cool.

I'll post again after tomorrow's shave.

So I had the same set up as last time .

Pre - Bath
Razor - Gillette slim adjustable
Brush - Wooden handle badger
hair.
Blade - Voskhod
Soap - Russian leather sample

Quality of scent and strength -

Personally I would prefer a stronger scent I'm not sure if it's just my nose but I felt the same with the Royal mint , maybe just personal preference but yeah a little bit stronger would be nice.

Love the scent though and my wife walked in as I was shaving and said that it smells of imperial leather [emoji106].

Quality of lather , post shave -

So it lathered up fine it does seem to be thirsty but I don't see that as a problem as you just add more water .

What I have noticed is that it doesn't seem to be that slick , I noticed this on the last sample they just don't seem to give you the best protection in the world when compared to other soaps .

Now finally !!!!!!!!!!!

This Russian leather sample has given my a terrible reaction [emoji24].
I always do more passes on my neck as it's where I have really corse hair and also it grows in mad directions so because of this i lathered and shaved about 4 times on my neck and it's brought me out in a terrible reaction it went red roar and blotchy !! [emoji53].

Strange aswell as I'm not really that sensitive so it must be something in it that's not usually in the line of soaps [emoji17].

Samples arrived safe and sound.
The lemon, well, all I can say is I won't be bothered by mosquitoes after shaving with it. The scent is almost identical to citronella and lemon grass. Hardly any menthol comes through in the dry soap.
The Russian leather is a very similar scent to Bluebeard's revenge. Very traditional soapy barbershop scent. For me it's not imperial leather, the scent is stronger and has a quinine element.

I chose the lemon to face lather with my razorock synthetic. Used about a sixth of the sample and it produced nice creamy slick comfortable feeling lather. Slight menthol tingle. The glide, protection and face feel are at another level to the royal mint sample. Post shave is dry and comfortable but not overly moisturising. Subtle menthol cooling. The scent stays well and mellows to a citronella candle smell.
This is one to use abroad. In the heat. To ward off bugs and give a cool fresh feeling. I like it but would be my travel soap rather than a UK regular

Hi Davey I just shaved with same batch as you and had the same. The fragrance has been tested as alegen free and I don't get this with the Russian Leather AS. I think it is the soap needing more time to cure. Can you and anyone else having a reaction stop with using the soap. I am going to do another ph test on the soap I just used. Will post back shortly.

Shave 2 Lemon Cool.
Same tingling sensation as with the Russian Leather. I really am not to keen on the scent and I am normally a citrus kinda guy! Next to no cooling from the Menthol either. Extremely slick; lather a little thin so protection & cushion not up there with the best. I don't think this batch is quite as good as the Royal mint batch
Hope this is helpful...

No it's not the soap it's safe at 8.2

@Davey8 @rowlers can you use the other sample next to see if you have a simalar reaction. I need to be 100% sure it's the fragrance. I will check all the paperwork again for the Russian Leather for any possible causes.

Davey I am sorry this happened, do you get this from other soap scents or men's perfumes at all?

Hmmm.. my delicate face even gets a rash from Nivea Sensitive balm and I had no problems with the Russian Leather. To be honest, I only get a rash from Nivea Sensitive. :p

Both samples arrived today so first off thanks for giving me a further opportunity to test out your soap.
With respect to the two different scents from giving each a quick sniff before choosing which one to lather up the Russian Leather proved already familiar to me through your Imperial Trevor soap which immediately gets the thumbs up from me. The Lemon Cool scent smelt like lemon. For me it does what it says on the tin scent wise, as far as I'm concerned anyway. Strong enough to make its presence known but not so strong as to make you feel like you are working in the Jif factory. Then again, herbal and citrus scents don't rock my boat so I cannot make a comparison to any other lemon scented soaps that may be out there.
I decided to go with the Lemon Cool soap. In terms of ease of lathering, it was as straight forward as I have come to expect from Wickham's. Plenty of lather appeared in no time at all in my scuttle enough and then some for a three pass shave. The various tweeks made between v1 and v2 were noticeable and an improvement on v1 in my opinion. As far as glide and cushion were concerned, I got enough of both to meet my needs. My face was left smooth with no nicks, cuts, tightness or any redness post shave. I didn't need to use any balms, aftershaves or potions at all.
One thing I didn't get was the dialled up menthol, in fact I was left feeling that the Royal Mint v1 left much more of a tingle than the Lemon Cool. As I have mentioned in some of my earlier posts menthol is another of those, not really my thing things, so I could live with it not coming through but my sense is that this soap is meant to have a bit more of a kick to it than Royal Mint and , for me, it just wasn't there.

I have used at least 60 soaps and the on 2 reaction I had was the TOBS sandlewood and soap smooth cognac .

But this was a different reaction my whole next was burning and itchy then it was brought up in red / white large spots , the wife said it looks like hives ! [emoji45].

@Davey8 I would like to see what it is that is causing this. It can either be the fragrance or the jojoba oil. If I sent you another sample with just the jojoba oil and no scent would you give it a try? I am sorry for the reaction and know how uncomfortable it is as I react to capsicum in a hives rash way that burns and itches.
