Wooden Soap Bowls

Hi all,

I was just wondering out of all the brands of soaps with wooden bowls, who has the best one in terms of quality and size?

In terms of size, I mean which brands have sizes that I can put a soap from another brand in once it's done? Or are all wooden bowls pretty much the same size?

Alternatively, could anyone recommend a nice wood soap bowl that will accept most soap refills?

Thanks all,

Dipesh

My experience is a lot of the soaps vary in size, Harris Soaps fit Harris Bowl nicely but others will fit. Where the wooden bowl is a few mm larger just remember to turn it upside down for a few seconds otherwise the bottom of the soap goes mushy. In fact I do that with most of them.

The feckers are the Penns and the Joris soaps that have a concave bottom, you either need to use it upside down or chop it.

If the fit isn't perfect then you could always grate and squish. Or melt and pour if a glycerine soap like Mama Bear.

I ordered one of these today, if you haven't already taken the plunge I'll let you know what it's like when it's here.

I bought a cheap one off ebay for about £3 iirc, not one from Connaught. I grated some MWF into it and it works well, BUT I would advise you to give it a good soak first! I didn't and put the soap straight into it, and the first time it got wet the dye leached out and turned the soap brown! It's purely a cosmetic effect which soons wears off, but it would be better to prevent it happening!

This happened to me with a Connaught bowl. I put TOBS Rose cream in it and it took up the colour. And it dried out. Bit of a disaster really, so I don't think its a good idea to store cream in a wooden bowl. I must say that I've never seen it sold that way.
