Great watch!

I love Smiths watches, I'm waiting patiently for a nice condition W10 to come up!

There's a few W10's on eBay at eye watering prices but with a 'make an offer'
They will be a good investment watch to own ;)

It's worth remembering that there were over 20,000 W10s issued in 1967-70 so they are not a rare watch at all. Personally, I think prices have peaked; you should be able to get a beater for £350 and a decent one for £450. I'd never pay more than about £470 for one.

(Chancers and dealers ask more, but whether they get their price is another matter; mind you, watches from dealers should come serviced and with a warranty which is worth a bit but these are fairly simple watches with a plentiful supply of pare parts as they just have an Astral 27CS movement.)

Also, ebay is a good place to sell them but not such a great place to buy: I'd try a specialist forum such as tz-uk or mwr.

The classic Seiko 5's
Scroll down to the 50 quid jobbies here http://www.creationwatches.com/products/seiko-automatic-watches-69/

They use the Seiko 7S26C Automatic (mechanical) movement. It's been around since the 70's and is accurate, reliable & pretty bomb proof.
Avoid the diver style watches as that's where they jump up to 40+mm using the same movement. Same as that Orange monster a few posts above.

Wear it till it dies and buy another as a service on a automatic is going to set you back ~120 quid. Anywhere between 5-10 years life expectancy.

I agree, cracking little watches.

I didn't like the original strap so I put it on a Monkeyswag NATO. I've also got a Bond strap for it.

Nice watch it looks good on that strap.

Great watches the 5's right across the range I'm wearing this one today. Great watch, great weight to it, little bling this one.

A severe lack of Chinese watches on this thread so let's put that right, I have become a huge fan of the likes of Beijing, Sea-gull and Shanghai watches over the last few years, they make some beautiful mechanical watches with in house movements that are fantastic value for money and are gaining a reputation that is gradually emerging from the mountain of crap China is famous for.

Today I am wearing my beautiful Beijing Zhufung(Everest), it has the superb hand wound SB18 movement and comes with a lovely Alligator strap.

My latest acquisition is this Sekonda 25 jewel Automatic.
I bought this for the movement in it. It is a Russian, Slava 2427 Twin Barrel (2 mainsprings), Day/Date.

Another movement to get familiar with, so I will take it apart and give it a service ;) It has a date quickset 'pin' that is just above the winding crown and is depressed with something like a toothpick.

Looks like a 70's design case thats in good condition as is the dial. The watch is running very well and keeping excellent time.
£26 inclusive of Special Delivery off eBay :)

Hi guys, a great day for me, a very nice present from the Wife, another anniversary gift. A Hamilton Khaki Officer my first Automatic.
