What is the best cartridge/disposable razor system of all time?

The best could be the Penny Shaver which has a single blade cartridge and no skin stretching bar and no lubricating strip from AP Shave Co and said by Sharpologist to be Fusion compatible and a Fusion killer. I doubted that because I thought why would anyone buy the blades if they also had to buy a Fusion unless they already have one? But a quick visit to apshave confirmed they do supply a handle. So I've ordered a set. Total price by Paypal including flat rate post from Canada to U.K. 32.94 CAD which worked out to £19.98 in real money plus VAT when it arrives. It's a handle with one cartridge and 4 refills. That's about twice and a bit more than a Gillette Guard on eBay UK posted from Indonesia. I'll be sure to post a review.

I much preferred the fixed head over the swivel-head Atra/Contour ... for me, the Sensor fixed all my niggles with the Atra. Over on the Wilkinson Sword side of things, it's the reverse with my preference for the swivel-head rather than their fixed head. Dunno why. I think perhaps the Wilkinson Sword Profile Swivel has more of an in-shave face-feel of the Sensor than the Atra, while their fixed head feels somewhat light and cheap in comparison to the Gillette Trac-II ... to me.

Love this story. Would love to know how.

@Darkbulb - not seen him round these parts for a long time.
Well, Darkbulb and I collected luxury editions of cart razors. I have a good collection of Trac II Deluxe, Contour/Atra Elites and Wilkinson Sword Royale's. DB was also into I think Reed Barton and International Silver editions. We would make each other aware of lots and wouldn't bid against each other. DB messaged me about a lot on ebay, listed by a widow of a Gillette executive.

The lot contained Platinum, Rhodium, Gold, and Titanium Ion plated razors. I believe they were all Sensors. We agreed want we would buy, and I got a gold plated Sensor with a pen, and another. DB also bought two. This left the Titanium Ion Sensor for anyone else. I believe these are not retail products, but very limited editions that were gifts of the Gillette company. There was some providence in the postings. I will look for a few photos posted previously.

Here was another listed on Etsy...

I *Think* the Gillette Sensor was probably my first razor when i started shaving around 1979 / 80. I do definitely recognise having owned and used one of those around that time.

Am pretty certain i had a Trac also at some point and do remember moving onto Mach 3 when they came out.

I used some sort of Gillette TTO DE with a long black handle that i got from somewhere in the early 80's and thats my first memory of DE razors

The Sensor was released in 1990. You're probably thinking of the Contour.

I started shaving with the Gillette GII (Trac II) in the seventies and still have a number of handles, which I use now and again. However, my go-to 'cart' is the metal handled Gillette Contour - great weight and perfect design in terms of the pivot, IMV. I have two that I bought from new in the 80's, plus later purchases, 'just in case'. I have the WS Profile but always thought it lacked weight. I'm not, generally, one for more than 2 blades - my runner-up would be the Feather MR3 (discontinued), which can take a 2 or 3 blade cartridge.
