Thinning the herd..

I've been thinking about thinning the herd of razors I've got, but not sure what to keep and what to get rid off.
I'll probably get rid of most of my straights, since I've tried, but it's just too scary for me...
Got a NEW in box, and old type (1917) in box, a slim adjustable, a FT rocket, HD rocket, Superspeed, black handle SS, Tech and a few others.. but I usually use the same ones over and over..
(HD & FT + Slim), so the straights will go, but what would you get rid of? (I already sold one adjustable), or should I just keep everything? I'm expecting a Fatboy and a Milord (in box) soon..

Which ones are the "keepers", and which ones would you let go? I've no idea on market prices for these things...

No idea what you should keep or sell.
I too tend to use the same old razors, for me its the Merkur 41 open comb and the Muehle R89 and occasionally the slant gets a look in but not very often :)
 
That's not a herd, that's a rotation. ;)

Keep em. You may have your favourites but one thing I've found is that you can grow to like almost any razor
with the right blade and enough use. Having said that you do have some "overlap" with some of those flair tips.
 
Damn it HunnyMonster! I was going to volunteer to help FB by receiving the HD Rocket :lol: :lol: Fancy giving one a try.

If anything the SS is a doubler but that is a nice rotation, they are different enough in the shave and the black SS has a different feel and weight because it is non metal. However you say you use the FT often and there are many who like to have their favourite and a backup one (just in case).

If it was me I would sell the gold one but only because I have am not so keen on gold coloured razors. Take your favourite away and use one you are thinking of selling for a week and then after going back decide if it is really needed.

It is something we all go through now and again, I have quite a few DE's both old and new and I do sell or swap them regularly but I always end up replacing it with another. So feel free to sell, you will find another one to pick up that takes your fancy.
 
I'd certainly hang on to the NEW and the HD Rocket, but as others have said, it's a nice varied rotation as it stands. Being a hoarder by nature, I'll probably say much the same about your straights, but if you're not using them I suppose it makes sense to let them go.
 
Were I you I most definitely wouldn't sell the slim adjustable, since it would be a temptation to JohnnyO who always fancied one since seeing it in Goldfinger & he has no excuse for adding to a collection he's trying to thin out himself.

If I was you Max I'd keep them all, for now at least. I'm pretty new to this now still, but have a couple of month's DE experience on you. In that time your technique will increase umpteen fold, and you'll find blades that do and don't suit you even more than now. So you may find that a razor that doesn't hugely find favour now will do at some time in the future, or vice versa.

Max, don't be in a rush. It's too early to start thinning out. I've been on that path some months ahead of you, and from what you will have been able to see here at TSR some others have even been there already few years back.

Let your technique improve more and soon you'll be able to use some of these razors with joy. The time when you will know very well which ones you will keep and which ones you won't will indeed come, but may be you're not there yet - just double check that. Remember what you try now and find not to your taste may be a pleasure for you to use some months or even few years later.

So try a variety of things and be sure on what you like before you settle down and decide to sell, trade or PIF.
 
Nah couldn't take it to PC world to clean up, they would find my Before and After Razor cleaning pics that i keep in a Hidden Partition on my Hard Drive...and along with the Brush Porn Pics that Fido has sent me from his own Private collection, if they found them it's game over... :oops: :oops:
