Sotd-25-04-20.jpg

Sotd - today - I am reliably informed. 25-04-20 - in this foul year of our lord.

Prep - facial scrub
razor - ATT Calypso M
blade - Feather (2)
brush - Semogue 2000 boar
soap - Goodfellas - Inferno
post - witch hazel
a/s - Nivea - 2 in 1
balm - none needed
scent - Sauvage EDP.

Result? - bang on - tidy. Soft Italian soap - and a boar brush - it is the law - isn't it? This knot is properly broken in - see above - it only took about five years - good boar knots are worth the perseverance - I've found. Everybody should have - unless you are vegan - a Semogue 1305 - cheap as chips - classic - for a reason. Good shave - enjoy yours - one and all - I.

Oh - Anzac day -

'When I was a young man I carried my pack
And I lived the free life of a rover
From the Murrays green basin to the dusty outback
I waltzed my matilda all over

Then in nineteen fifteen my country said son
It's time to stop rambling 'cause there's work to be done
So they gave me a tin hat and they gave me a gun
And they sent me away to the war

And the band played Waltzing Matilda

As we sailed away from the quay
And amidst all the tears and the shouts and the cheers
We sailed off to Gallipoli

How well I remember that terrible day
When the blood stained the sand and the water
And how in that hell that they called Suvla bay
We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter

Johnny Turk he was ready, he primed himself well
He showered us with bullets, and he rained us with shells
And in five minutes flat he'd blown us all to hell
Nearly blew us right back to Australia

And a band played waltzing Matilda

As we stopped to bury our slain
And we buried ours and the Turks buried theirs
Then it started all over again

Now those who were living did their best to survive
In that mad world of blood, death and fire
And for seven long weeks I kept myself alive
While the corpses around me piled higher

Then a big Turkish shell knocked me arse over tit
And when I awoke in my hospital bed
And saw what it had done, Christ I wished I was dead
Never knew there were worse things than dying
And no more I'll go waltzing Matilda

To the green bushes so far and near - for to hump tent and pegs, a man needs two legs
No more waltzing Matilda for me

So they collected the cripples, the wounded and maimed
And they shipped us back home to Australia
The legless, the armless, the blind and insane

Those proud wounded heroes of Suvla
And as our ship pulled into circular quay
I looked at the place where me legs used to be
And thank Christ there was nobody waiting for me
To grieve and to mourn and to pity

And a band played Waltzing Matilda

As they carried us down the gangway
But nobody cheered, they just stood and stared
And they turned all their faces away
And now every April I sit on my porch
And I watch the parade pass before me

I see my old comrades, how proudly they march
Reliving their dreams of past glory
I see the old men, all twisted and torn
The forgotten heroes of a forgotten war
And the young people ask me, "what are they Marching for?"
And I ask myself the same question

And the band plays Waltzing Matilda
And the old men still answer to the call
But year after year their numbers get fewer
Some day no one will march there at all

Waltzing Matilda

Waltzing Matilda

Who'll go a-Waltzing Matilda with me?

@Digimonkey Iain, may I ask - what angle do you use with the Calypso M? Second shave today with the Calypso - this time paired with a Feather - a great shave - very mild - feels as if I am hardly getting any stubble off with each pass.

All the best,

Chris

This evening saw a shave themed 'Juxtapose'

IMG_20200425_204720.jpg

This shave was brought to you in glorious technicolor

Ikon B1
Polsilver Lodz
Razorock 400
L'Occitane Cade in some mocking Wilkinson Sword tub. @Boycie83 has a cheap arsed approach to containers but I can't complain too much as it was gifted to me
Tin of mushy peas by Batchelors

@Digimonkey this shave is dedicated to you in colour due to complaints that my life is too black and white of recent.

If you have somehow managed to read any of my SOTD's (if not, neither would I if I were you) you will by now know exactly how I feel in regards to the B1. Nothing has changed and once again this fluffy pup turned in a sterling performance worthy of any shaving Oscar. Controlled aggressiveness in stainless steel. Brilliant. Throw in one of the finest blades ever grown in Poland and life is in shaving heaven.

Despite being presented in some cheap plastic tub the Cade is an absolute gem. Lathers so so easily into a stonking thick cream of shaving medium. Everything to love and nothing to hate........ except the cheap container

IMG_20200425_213256.jpg

Nasty.

More importantly one fantastically smooth shave and down to the level where any remaining bristles have given up the ghost and decided a mass exodus was a better option than facing the Ikon.

Anyway I'll end this Smashing shave with a fluffy kitten and a lovely video you have seen before which I just love

May you all and your families be safe, healthy and happy during these testing times

Magnificent effort, Iain. It is a very special day for us. Most Australians and New Zealanders get up in the early hours to attend dawn services. This year, with social distancing, everyone simply stood outside their houses with candles, torches, wreaths, etc, recited the Ode of Remembrance and listened to the Last Post.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

Saturday 25th April

Soap - Palmolive Stick
Brush - Shavemac 26mm Synthetic
Razor - Merkur Progress 500 #2.5
Blade - Gillette Platinum (3)
Toner - Witch Hazel Bergamot/Cedar wood
Post - Aloe Vera gel

The GP blade on shaves one and two weren't as smooth as you would expect, which I had put down to some degree of incompatibility.
The penny dropped mid first pass - I had the Progress top plate on the wrong way . . .
I don't know how, but I had forgotten about the markers on the side of the razor head and top plate - a mistake I won't be making again in a hurry !
Normal service was resumed after re-assembly, and the remainder of my shave was much more comfortable.

Cream: D R Harris Arlington
Brush: Kent BK8
Bowl: My recycled T&H cream bowl
Razor: Merkur Futur
Blade Gillette Nacet (2)
Post Shave: Alum

A great shave with the new toy, again dialled it to 3 for the first pass, then 2.5 and 2. Again a three-pass, BBS smooth shave.

Have a good week folks, and stay healthy.

Sun 26th April

RazoRock 400- SE. Plissoft noir
L`Occitane Cade cream
Occam-Hiram Commander /Plate 3
Schick Proline [ 7 ]
BG Sixth Sense A/S Lotion

Some have had quality control issues with The Hiram during its manufacture, I was lucky as I had a spare plate to replace a defective one so was able to use it straight away. Initially I used it with a guarded blade and though the Shaves were good they were quite lengthy. I have overcome that problem by using a Schick Proline blade, I now get Top Quality Shaves which rival those I get with my ATT-SE1. Glad I sold on my King Cobra to buy this and The Enoch.

Pre: Shower
Brush: Simpson Chubby 2
Soap: Stirling Soap co. Bay Rum
Razor: Blackland Vector
Blade: Feather PB (7)
Post shave: Cold water splash, TC's Bay Rum #1
Balm: Tonyschin's Bay Rum Argan Oil
Aftershave: Tonyschin's Bay Rum #02 Splash

A 2 pass shave with a little buffing resulting in a BBS Finish.
The Post shave was all of my own making ending with the splash of my Bay Rum #2, not as strong as @Electrif 's, however, it works just as well.
Stay safe and enjoy your Sunday All
