Wash with French Pink Clay & Charcoal Soap
Lather up with VITOS Classic & Macy Associates No.4 w/Muhle Silvertip Fibre 21mm
Single pass shave with mirror polished Muhle Rocca R96 & Vidyut Stainless (Economy) (3)
Hot rinse, cold rinse & Jade East Aftershave

Third run with the very plebian Vidyut Stainless (Economy) and I am very glad that I used it through to three shaves as it settles that one in my mind. It is reputed to be a single go blade which is considered bottom of the heap by Indian street barbers. I found it absolutely a good shave, keen from the off and smooth throughout. I don't think I would say that it reduced in smoothness and I was very much ready for that on the third shave.

Three straightforward good shaves.

... and with that, it's being marked up as 8.5/10 placing it a touch above a number of blades that I like and have put at 8/10 such as the Shark Super Stainless and it gets that extra pip for consistency. It's not up there with my 9/10 ratings, blades like PermaSharp Super, VOSKHOD, (Lord) Silver Star and Treet DuraSharp (carbon). It is right in there with such bedfellows as the Lord Classic, also a consitently keen and smooth shaver.

I should also reiterate that I've found the immediate post-shave feel and the feel of the regrowth to be very much like I'd get from a carbon blade, like the Treet DuraSharp, or even a vintage carbon straight.

Jade East? You say ...

Proper vintage splash that had me dancing a little in the bathroom, but I have a tough enough hide that it wasn't a full-on 'Home Alone'.

Scent? Well, usual '70s, it's green, slightly woody, very musky, touch of artemesia (which I particularly like and find in most of the frags that I say I like) and a touch of anise. It's sorta like splashing Ouzo and cat piss on your face.

Yesterday -

prep - facial scrub
razor - ATT Calypso - R plate
blade - Med Prep (1)
brush - Chub 1 best
soap - Proraso sandalwood
post - witch hazel
a/s - Floid mentally vigorous
blam - Floid
scent - Eau Sauvage parfum.

The most nervous type of shave - a funeral to attend - running late, as always - need to shave. Thinking about it later - I needn't have bothered - what with that part of my face being covered for the duration - but - if you are going to put on your best suit - actually my only suit, you want the whole effect? Even if you haven't drawn claret for years - if it is ever going to happen it will be a situation like this - just when you really really don't need to hurt yourself. This actually happened to me a couple of years ago - using a Schick! - of all razors. A virtual impossibility you would have thought? Nope - I did it - still don't know how - in my experience - the very safest of safety razor designs. Muppet. Got away with it yesterday thankfully - helped by the admirable Calypso no end. I - as have we all - experienced some weird shit since last March - but a lock-down funeral was without doubt the oddest and most unsettling experience of the lot. Of the 20 allowed mourners - virtually all of them my closest blood relatives - but with the exception of your partner - no one is allowed to touch. No handshakes, no hugs. Separated out in a freezing cold, next to empty crematorium chapel. I fully understand why - but it was odd none the less. The wake postponed until? Joins the list of communal gathering we can't have at the moment - which in the case of a funeral is normally a natural part of the grieving process - the swapping of memories and stories - and of course - the consumption of large amounts of whisky. So - to that end - let's all pay attention - stay safe. Enjoy your shaves - yours - I.

Sorry for your loss Iain.

It's not mine nor @Satanfriendly birthday as far as I know but let's all celebrate nonetheless!!

Loving the look of your Yates razor, this is the first time I've seen one. No UK stockists ........probably a good thing........I really don't need another razor, not that has stopped me before!!! :)

Paul.

Thank you Paul. I am really enjoying the Yates razor. I like the stone washed finish which makes it easy to keep clean. The maker releases parts and pieces as he finishes so it took me a month or longer to snag the parts for a complete razor.

So how did the blade perform????
I have had a similar experience with the London Bridge Version and am hoping for a better experience the second time out.

Much smoother this time. I went in to this shave with a bit of trepidation but it was fine. I'm now of the opinion it's an ok blade. It won't be taking the top spots from my PPI favourites though.

Sorry for your loss our deepest condolences.

Just had a look at The Journal Shop. Some lovely stuff on there, oh dear. Must not fall down another rabbit hole.
R. - there does appear to be a commonality between an appreciation of stationery and shaving porn. Sure - we could write with a biro and a cheap notepad - in the same same vein - we could shave with a disposable twin blade and foam - but we don't. If something is worth doing - it's worth doing well. I.

I thought my lowest point was watching men shave on YouTube. But no. I'm now watching videos on what's the best fountain pen ink! Did you know you can get scented ink? Of course you did! Oh the shame!
