Sunday 17th January
Wash with French Pink Clay & Charcoal Soap
Lather up with VITOS Classic & Macy Associates No.4 w/Muhle Silvertip Fibre 21mm
Single pass shave with mirror polished Muhle Rocca R96 & Vidyut Stainless (Economy) (3)
Hot rinse, cold rinse & Jade East Aftershave
Third run with the very plebian Vidyut Stainless (Economy) and I am very glad that I used it through to three shaves as it settles that one in my mind. It is reputed to be a single go blade which is considered bottom of the heap by Indian street barbers. I found it absolutely a good shave, keen from the off and smooth throughout. I don't think I would say that it reduced in smoothness and I was very much ready for that on the third shave.
Three straightforward good shaves.
... and with that, it's being marked up as 8.5/10 placing it a touch above a number of blades that I like and have put at 8/10 such as the Shark Super Stainless and it gets that extra pip for consistency. It's not up there with my 9/10 ratings, blades like PermaSharp Super, VOSKHOD, (Lord) Silver Star and Treet DuraSharp (carbon). It is right in there with such bedfellows as the Lord Classic, also a consitently keen and smooth shaver.
I should also reiterate that I've found the immediate post-shave feel and the feel of the regrowth to be very much like I'd get from a carbon blade, like the Treet DuraSharp, or even a vintage carbon straight.
Jade East? You say ...
Proper vintage splash that had me dancing a little in the bathroom, but I have a tough enough hide that it wasn't a full-on 'Home Alone'.
Scent? Well, usual '70s, it's green, slightly woody, very musky, touch of artemesia (which I particularly like and find in most of the frags that I say I like) and a touch of anise. It's sorta like splashing Ouzo and cat piss on your face.
