Shavette question

Well, I ordered it based on the recommendation. With it's low cost, if I didn't use it, it wouldn't be the end of the world. I did dither over using it and it took a few hours to get there. I spent the day looking at it and watched a few vid's on YouTube to get an idea of how to hold it, eventually got up the courage to try it out.

Take it at your own pace and enjoy it.

I've used the shavette several time now and nicked myself (by my right ear) each time. While I appreciated that it has been mentioned in this thread that it is a risk with the shorter blade of the shavette. Is there something I should be focusing on to prevent these nicks?

You need an exceptionally good lather when using things like that. I'd focus on that as well. Use a really good and protective cream (I usually only experiment with Speick or Vitos) and pay attention to consistency (so it has enough slip and cushion).
You know the rest of the story with no pressure, angle and so forth.
