After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep;

vintage Marshall Fields badger
Gillette Popular/Iridium
Surrey SS (pre VDH reformulation)
Lucky Tiger AS and Face Tonic
Caron 'Yatagan' EdT (1970s vintage)

Second shave with the UK made Popular, and this reminds me of a Sheraton/Senator US model. One of the milder OC types, but still has some good bite. Handle's a bit on the thin side and the barberpole knurling ;s kinda on the shallow side, which makes it a little tougher to grip than some other models. Nice balance and a closer than usual shave. This razor does a nice job of whacking them there whiskers..

For those of you who enjoy Yatagan, this older version is nothing like the currently produced juice. The vintage stuff has lots more going on, and the intensity is stronger. I much prefer the early version.

BBS results,

Martin

Here's a pic of the thin handle Popular next to the #16 Aristo.

Nice razor you have there Marvin..........:icon_razz::icon_razz:

Ah yes, one of my favorite damn Limey enablers,

Yeah.........this Popular is a purty lil thang. I see em all the time when I hit the local Chicago area flea markets, but they're always about $20-25 or so (cased and in nice shape), and I sorta hate to spend that kinda cash. After trying yours though, I may have to pick up 6-8 of these classy pieces.

Thanks buddy,

Mandrake

Tonight:

Hot shower
TOBS lemon and lime cream, face lathered with
New Forest Tubby 2
Merkur HD, with
Gillette 7OC Yellow (7)
Trumpers Lime skin food

A quick (10 minutes to shave, five more to aftershave and clean up the instruments) and very clean and comfortable shave.

Friday Night:

  • Gem Micromatic Clog-pruf SE razor
  • Gem Coated stainless steel SE blade
  • Vie Long 12705 natural horsehair brush
  • La Toja Manantiales bowled shave soap
  • Thayers' Lavender witch hazel
  • La Toja Manantiales ASL

... just two words for this shave:

  • "
  • Ssssooo-" and "-weeeet
  • !"

Say them close together.

;)

Muhle R89 with Personna red (#4)
Proraso shaving soap
Simpsons special best badger brush
Nivea ASB
Ted Lapidus EDC
Decent shave but pushing the Personna to a fourth shave is about the limit !

EJ 89
Some badger thing
Racer (4)
Body Shop Maca Root Shave Cream
Real Shaving co ASB

Considering shave number two on this blade was absolutely awful and shave three only slightly better, had a brilliant shave this morning on shave number four with the blade.
