Re: Shave of the Day, w/c Saturday 13 February 2010

EJ DE89 with a Gillette Bleue extra
Wars Cream
Vulfix 2235 super badger
Boots freshwoold ASB

Am liking the Gillette Bleue extra blade, sharp, smoothish and retaining its edge quite well. I feel I'm really getting the hang of this DE lark now, yesterday's shave was so close above the chin that if my neck had been the same tonight's shave would have been for pleasure not necessity (well almost).

Re: Shave of the Day, w/c Saturday 13 February 2010

Thursday:
Razor: 70's Superspeed
Blade: Derby Extra
Brush: Semogue
Soap: Williams
After: Aqua Velva*

*Got 400ml of this sent by a fella in Texas in exchange for a few Palmolive sticks and have another 100ml on its way.

Re: Shave of the Day, w/c Saturday 13 February 2010

Muehle R41
Derby Extra
Proraso Aloe and Green Tea
Rooney Super
Alum
Liz Earle A/S Balm
DRH Marlborough A/S

Usual high standard from this combo but I tried some blade buffing today, I don't usually do more than two passes but was enjoying the warm lather (bowl in the sink) that I decided to keep going.

Good haul on the AV Joe

Re: Shave of the Day, w/c Saturday 13 February 2010

Thursday

Muhle R41 OC
Lord Super Chrome (2)
Semogue 1305
ToBS Cream (Mr Taylor)

Old SpiceAS
Nivea ASB

The Muhle/Lord SC combo has provided an effective shave (after yesterday's efforts) but not as smooth as the Derby. The Muhle is, for me, the ultimate razor; I'm lovin' it...

EDIT: The disappearing Avatar. The original reinstated temporarily, a fresh one will need some contemplation, I think.

Thursday

'66 Gillette Superspeed
Gillette Super Thin
Vulfix VS/3

Re: Shave of the Day, w/c Saturday 13 February 2010

Thursday

Exceptional shave today and not sure what made the difference. Didn't even bother to shower first, just a quick rinse with hot water and soap.

Chatsworth Jagger with Gillette Super Thin
Chubby 2 Best
Trumpers Rose soap
Floris Elite A/S balm

The Chubby / Trumpers Rose soap combo produced an explosion of lather - that must have contributed. How anyone needs a Chubby 3 is beyond me - the Chubby 2 is a monster.

Re: Shave of the Day, w/c Saturday 13 February 2010

Went back to my reliable set up today.

Merkur 34HD
Astra blade
Wilkinson Sword brush
Crabtree and Evelyn Sienna soap

Alum
Nivea ASB

Lovely shave. Nice and close, smooth, no irritation. Brilliant

Re: Shave of the Day, w/c Saturday 13 February 2010

Thursday

Superdrug Pre-Shave splash
Merkur 41OC
BIC Chrome Platinum (1)
Vulfix 404 Bodger
MWF (da Fat)
Alum Block
Wilkos (the shop) ASB
Superstar Kurio AS

1st shave with the BIC and found it quite sharp and smooth, a DFS was had with the 1904 OC (only 1 shim  ), I always get a good lather with da fat even thou I have hard water, done my normal WTG 2xXTG and ATG. I got the wilkinsons (shop) ASB the other day and tried it today, not bad at 99p but not as good as nivea or boots and nowhere near as good as prorarso pre-post (which I only use as a post shave balm), also picked up a bottle of Superstar Kurio AS from the local cheap shop at 99p ( I'm a sucker for cheap shaving gear  ).

Have a good day gents (even thou its poring down)

Re: Shave of the Day, w/c Saturday 13 February 2010

Thursday

Merkur 34c HD
Personna Red (3)
Vulfix 404 mix
Tabac
Alum
Boots AS
Boots ASB

Hmmmm 3rd sub par shave in a row, 3rd shave with that particular blade. Coincidence?
I dunno if the blade is a dodgy one in the pack or what. Im annoyed.

Patchy shave, little burn, no bleeding.

Re: Shave of the Day, w/c Saturday 13 February 2010

Have you had a good shave with that blade / razor combo before Andy? If yes, it could be a duffer blade. If no, try a different brand.

Personally I find Red Personna's mediocre at best, in any razor i've tried.
