Recommendations for a soap

surprised no one here has recommended the arko stick.

its as good as any soap ive tried.

-tabac : ok, but irritated my skin a little
-TOBS sandalwood : was too similar in performance to my C&E nomad to keep both
-C&E nomad : a good staple performer and i've always got on well with it.
-arko stick : i love the smell, find it lathers very easilly and provides me a comfortable and easy shave. Its cheap too

I'm mostly a creams man, but the arko is good enough to make it into a travel kit

- D.R. Harris, you can't go wrong here, excellent soap.
- The Art of Shaving, especially the Sandalwood version. Lovely lather.
- Czech & Speake, made by the same people in Italy who make the AoS soaps (that is Valobra). That is, of course, if you like the two C&S scents.
- Santa Maria Novella, a kind of pretty hard shave cream similar to Proraso, very good stuff albeit expensive.
- Martin de Candre, reportedly a terrific soap but pretty expensive as well.
- Pre de Provence, very very nice but can probably get it only in the U.S. despite the fact it is a French soap.
- Shave sticks, as James well said: La Toja and Irisch Moos / Tabac are my recommendations here.
Amen to this!

for me in this order ...MWF....C & S...tabac

i used to get tabac at £1.50 a stick...alas no more and down to my last 2

still a lot for me to try....but will get there..i still like proraso and TOBS

maybe i should try that Klar Kabinnett

I'm currently in love with Klar Kabinett, and it's a bargain at 15€ (9,90€ + 5€ shipping) for 500g of spectacular soap in your house!! In Portugal and Spain we made group buys of it, it comes in two bars of 250g. Don't really recommend if you don't like roses and floral smelling soaps! Other than that... magnificent!

500g - that's a lot of soap

And it's triple milled too!!! :hungrig

Group buy anyone?

On the KK, I would be in but it has hint of rose in it, so that puts me off at the moment at least.

For those who would consider another option, it's not supposed to be something extraordinary but I gave it a go (my sis wanted some ladies items) and am expecting it next Tue:
Bottega Uomo - Shaving cream with Coconut oil and Cocoa butter (150ml) currently on discount at about £1.50, there are some nice balms as well that one can choose from them.

It's certainly not MdC type of soap but I see the Spanish forum members using that and the balms frequently. Some over at B&B say it's the same as Figaro shave cream, the one that Paul used to stock?

Delivery from that web shop is free above 45 USD, items ship from Italy via Standard (6-day) UPS courier service. If you register and order for first time you get an additional Eur 5.00 discount plus some EdT gifts etc. that you can present and surprise your wives. ;)

Yeah, I found that site too, but I think that the shipping costs where greater, and in the end it was more expensive! (to Portugal at least, perhaps where you are is better! It never hurts to simulate!)

It has a lot more than a hint! I like the smell, but YMMV!

I have a jar of Bottega Verde Uomo (more hard cream than soap), it has a POWERFUL smell of almonds, not like Cella, or Valobra, a lot more!! In Portugal it is considered very good value for money, at 2.99€ in the store. It is supposedly the same as Fígaro, at least the composition is identical! If you don't love the smell of almonds don't face later, make it in a bowl, the smell wears off an then apply to the face! The smell is quite explosive, and right under your nose if you face lather!

Also recommended is the Bottega Verde The Rosso ASB, very good stuff, very thick, good results, almost everyone has it in Portugal too, including myself, there is a black pepper ASB that is supposedly very good also, but I've never tried it!

Thank you for that rntdc; this is the balm I ordered, the Rosso. Let's see how good this is, next week now.
