At £8.95 these seem expensive to me. Gillette are doing one for £9.95.

Are they trying to put people off D/E shaving? Or am I being cynical.

For about a tenner more you're in to Edwin Jagger and Muhle territory, so why not go straight there? I suppose if you aren't clued up then this may seem interesting, but surely if you want DE on a real budget then this is the one to try:

Has anyone tried it?

I have.

Mine had a fault in the casting of the head. It was a rough edge that pressed down on the blade making it uneven. A sort of flat V shape that, instead of shaving me gauged a slice down the side of my face. I threw it in the bin after that.

Others have had better experience tho'.

The Wilkinson Sword plastic razor, also available from Boots at around a fiver, is a good 'starter' razor. It has a metal rod inside the plastic handle to give it a bit of weight. Gives a mild, but close, shave and good for a newbie as it's hard, though not impossible, to cut yourself with it. It's also a handy travel razor because it's cheap enough that you wouldn't lose any sleep over it if it was lost or stolen

Agreed, the wilki is a good starting point and half the price of this piece of tat.

better with a Feather Popular from Paul

if you want to go plastic

My thinking is that the average Joe will compare the plastic Gillette DE to the cheaper Fusion handle and go for the Fusion. Not thinking about the price of the refills.

Ergh! That thing looks hideous.

Who makes those?

i suppose they are aimed at the disposable market? Travel.. that type of thing?

Mostly they're made for the SE Asian market - where plenty of people live on less than a dollar a day... they get shipped over here where they become some sort of fashion statement and command top dollar (and make someone about $9.50 profit of course)

How about those Indian made 'Romer' safety razors including the TTO types? Work out at about £7 each delivered. Has any one here tried one of these? May be a possible alternative these plastic things.
