Many many moons ago an ex-floozy of mine woke me up by running one of this type of épilator device across my chest. If you know what pulling a single hair out with tweezers feels like, multiply that by the number of rotating wheels and the speed at which they drag them out. They are instruments of torture and would probably be illegal in a conflict situation.

I remember my sister having an epilator in the 80s - one that had what looked like a single roll of tightly coiled spring that rotated. I tried it out on the back of my hand..... it was agonising as it ripped all of the hairs out in one lengthy swathe. 
Holy crap - how and why anyone would want to use one of those things is beyond me!
