Nice shave combination

I have been trying quite a few combinations of after shave toners, balms and moisturisers, I am by no means finished trying different permutations but at the weekend I stumbled on a nice recipe. Usual prep then Shave, Block, rinse then a spray of Thayers Rose Petal and Witch hazel Toner followed by Henks #6 balm.

I thought the good result was down to having a slow weekend shave with a longer shower and peaceful shave but I managed to repeat it Sunday, Monday and today. The Thayers is quite a nice calming toner which adds a little moisturiser and then adding a layer of Henks #6 is not too thick or to thin. For my skin it is just the right amount of moisturiser without getting greasy.

If you are looking for a good after shave splash / toner I think it is worth while considering buying a small 2oz bottle to try, £5.99 delivered (£2.99 plus £2 postage each additional item 50p postage) from the bay, the small 2oz bottle will make a good travel bottle as well.

They have a store with both the 2oz and 10 oz bottles,

I am not on commission, honest. I just used it and found it to be good. It works well with any balm but just seems to suit Henks very well, a nicely balanced combination. I bought Rose Petal and the medicated ones, both seem good.

Having tried Thayers "plain ol' witch hazel" and generic witch hazel from the first aid aisle, I can tell you that the smell is remarkably different (as is the composition and extraction method employed - I seem to recall that witch hazel in the US always comes with 14-20% ethanol in the mix, here we get distilled hamamelis water B.P. that has none declared).

Thayers is better, worse or just different?

The added alcohol will give the Thayer's added antiseptic properties, I use alum then Thayers but I do notice when I omit either.

Does Thayers provide enough moisture? Or do you use a moisturiser as well?!

I don't use it to moisturise.

Some flavours contain more alcohol than others, the "medicated" version seems to have the largest % of alcohol.

i remember asking a question on that other place about WH and was told that all WH contains about 14% alkyhol

unless the reply came from a nugget

i'll try searching my posts but that could be hard as i don't exist over there anymore

It's all here...

Looks like 2 x 20% and 1 x 10% the rest are alcohol free.

They can try but we are still part of the DNA.
