Give it a rinse under hot water or rub furiously in palm of hand (oosic?) if it's celluloid it should give a vinegary odor.

Did you manage to do the old oosik shuffle and find out what it's made from?

Nicely done with the restore! Mine performs as you describe but it's 20 mm knot. Did you bore it deeper to set the loft lower or you just set the knot in place?

When I took the old knot out it was actually too deep to set the new one so I used some epoxy to make a shelf to make it a suitable loft.

That´s what i did too. I used a new type, that´s like clay (two compenent). It´s soft for a couple of minutes so you can push the knot down and fix it the right hight easy.
