New Forest Brushes

Sorry if there is any confusion.

Bear in mind the New Forest 2201 is my first brush. So although I'm enthusiastic about it I want to be confident that early feedback shows that buyers and users are satisfied it performs well and is good value. The brush in my SOTD is my sample fan shape brush which will be the 2202 - I simply love the brush!

Before I order a batch of the 2202 brush I want more evidence of positive feedback from my early sales and I want to explore ways of improving the quality of the logo. So I cannot give a firm date yet but I hope it will be within the next few weeks.

Could anyone enlighten me as to the pros and cons of a bulb shape or a fan shape. Is one better for soaps or creams? Surely it does make a difference but what is it..?

thanks

As always, opinions differ!

It's arguable whether one shape or the other is any better at lathering with soaps or creams. Given equal knot density and loft a fan shaped brush will have a larger and softer face feel because it can splay more easily. An equivalent bulb shaped knot should retain's it's shape more readily and feel a little stiffer because of the shorter stouter hair it has around the perimeter of the knot. As always though it's matter of personal preference.

I've had an amazing response to my little venture. I cause quite a stir at the village post offfice when I turn up with the days shipment. Everyone asks me what I'm up to, word is spreading! Feedback has been excellent. A thread on B&B "Is this genuine 2 band?" is gathering momentum. I'm staying with just the 2201 for now, just to get into a routine and to ensure I don't get overloaded. Additional brushes will be introduced but timing will depend on being satisfied I can cope with demand. Thanks to everyone for your support.

Even at the post office? :p

As far as the "genuine 2-band" comment- ugh no sh*t Sherlock. I reckon someone would go to all the trouble just so he can achieve a 2-band. Hell it's dyed and sketched very much like boars are /sarcasm

Buncha dumb hicks. Am I glad I'm no longer there. I'm too good for that downtrodden squalor.

It's actually a very helpful thread Ivan.

Just read the B&B thread, yes some have indeed read your blog and your clear explanation of 2 band should set a lot of people straight. I am delighted to hear they are going well Fido and I think your are right to stick to the one until it balances out and you establish volumes and costs over several months at least.

Peter,

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad it's surfaced over there sooner than one can imagine. At least you needn't worry about advertising there mate!

There's no such thing as bad publicity they say ;)

I just read that B&B thread quickly, and I did find it amusing how everyone changed from sceptical to very satisfied on receipt of the brush

James,

Indeed. I'm surprised they didn't smite the thread with the iron fist of God not to mention edit such posts linking to Peter. Perhaps the troglodytes are in hibernation or too busy circle jerking each other with overpriced Best Eagles.

Peter,

I just read your "2 banded badger" blog. Felt like deja vu. Of the many shaving forums it seems to me the most ignorant-correction the only ignorant one is BB.

For someone who's never much given badger a thought due to past experience I had at least an idea of the concept of your brushes.
With recent use of my badgers in addition to 2201's superb performance, my interest in badger has resurfaced much like Hugh Hefner's libido after consumption of viagra.

For a forum ( BB ) to be saturated with brush reviews and brush threads left to right compared to any other smaller forums, their ignorance is mind-boggling to the point you want to punch babies.

Only time Rooney's 5 grading system threw me off was due to Classic's description "genuine" silvertip-which then prompted me to think "I reckon there must be phony silvertips out there" /sarcasm
