SuperSpeeds = good (American-made, date-coded, cheap as chips.)

Rockets = better (English-made, heavier and heftier than SuperSpeeds)

Aristocrats = best (English-made, heavier and heftier than Rockets)

An HD (= heavy duty) Rocket is basically an Aristocrat in terms of weight but are relatively common and cheap.

SuperSpeeds here: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9070" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9070</a><!-- m -->

Many Rockets look almost identical to SuperSpeeds; Rockets were almost the same razors but made in England - they do not have any date code but they do have a different (and immediately recognisable) "gap" between the handle and the TTO knob and pointed end-caps. In a nutshell: Rockets are a superior version to Superspeeds.

Mouth-watering Rocket info here: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9206" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9206</a><!-- m -->

English-made Aristocrats (and, yes, there's rubbish American ones too - just to confuse you!) are Rockets on steroids. Like Rockets they all say "Made In England", they all lack a date code, they all have pointed-end caps and they all have the Rocket "gap". But they are even bigger and better than Rockets (which, in turn, are bigger and better than the US-made SuperSpeeds)

This chart shows the difference between the numbered (English-made) Aristos such as the #66:

It most definitely did help Oll, you're a star.

I was starting to go into meltdown a bit. The first link is absolutely amazing! the guy appears to have done a 1st class job, only one problem now, to paraphrase Mr Mercury " I want them all, and I want them now"

Cheers Oll, life is a bit simpler again

Yeah I am always around. Let me know when/if and I will see what is happening at that time, West end is only a short hop for me, once I get through passport control to get out of smallville.

The talk of aristocrat's is nice but unless you have a large budget or strike lucky a Slim, Fatboy or HD Rocket will be your best bet for something under £30, TTO and heavy.

You are right! It's too easy to get carried away with the bright and shiny things seen on these boards. I fancy one for everyday usage, without breaking the bank. I know some people collect them and stick them in display cabinets, that's not me. If I owned them I would want to use them.

Regards

When you are done with Boab's HD, give me a shout I can loan you a Fatboy to try.

Erwin also had some very reasonable Slims for sale for under twenty quid not so long ago so keep an eye on tht B/S/T

Very generous mate. I'm currently researching what will suit me best, I have a heavy beard and that's why I tend to go for a heavy razor. It can get a bit technical out there! You were right about pricing, got my eyes opened on E-bay, I was thinking that there must have been hundreds of thousands, if not millions of these made and thrown away when they were deemed 'Old fashioned'

Regards

I prefer the heft of the Fatty over the Slim and I never really got on with the HD despite it's reputation. Some will swear by one or the other, you know how it is, just give each one a good trial and make your own mind up.

I’ve been scratching that exact same itch all week R62.

My two turned up this morning, an SS Flair tip and an Aristo Jnr. The Aristo is slightly heavier than the SS but both seem well balanced.

Have a good look through the attached links Revo put up, I’ve been pestering him to the point he’s probably banging his head against a hard immovable object.

Problem is I’m starting to turn into a Fu**ing Magpie with regards to bright shiny razors.

Oh,ooh,ooh... there’s another one, gotta go....

Tony

What in your opinion is the ratings aggression wise for these, as it looks ultimately it will be one of these.

Slim and Fatty heads are very similar, when cranked up they will be more aggressive than the HD. I 'll have to check by exactly how much though.
