Brethern, advice please

My arse is making buttons for a TTO razor. Birthday boy last week and really fancy one.

I have been in denial for too long. I fancy one to use as a daily shaver, leaving my beloved Futur for days off / occasions.

Gentlemen, please assist as I am a bit confused with the whole issue of TTO's. Ollie raves about Rockets and I find myself looking at them more and more (Much sighing and yearning looks) Only thing I would I would say is I'm not the biggest fan of lightweight razors, although I am open to all advice on aggression, pricing etc.

Regards

PS

Sorry about the blatantly macho subject , but my wife says I can have one.

Rocket HD - 71 grams
Slim - 71 grams
Fatboy - 80 grams

ALL are damn good Razors ;)

If your not bothered about Having an adjustable, i would go with an HD

Cheers guys.

They look great don't they, they look 'proper' and what a man should shave with. (Does that make sense?)

Fancy one for sentimental reasons too, realised it was one of these my old man shaved with. His old kit is somewhere in my sisters loft and she can't find it. It is driving me banana coco-pops.

What are the price ranges?

SuperSpeeds = good (American-made, date-coded, cheap as chips.)

Rockets = better (English-made, heavier and heftier than SuperSpeeds)

Aristocrats = best (English-made, heavier and heftier than Rockets)

An HD (= heavy duty) Rocket is basically an Aristocrat in terms of weight but are relatively common and cheap.

SuperSpeeds here: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9070" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9070</a><!-- m -->

Many Rockets look almost identical to SuperSpeeds; Rockets were almost the same razors but made in England - they do not have any date code but they do have a different (and immediately recognisable) "gap" between the handle and the TTO knob and pointed end-caps. In a nutshell: Rockets are a superior version to Superspeeds.

Mouth-watering Rocket info here: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9206" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9206</a><!-- m -->

English-made Aristocrats (and, yes, there's rubbish American ones too - just to confuse you!) are Rockets on steroids. Like Rockets they all say "Made In England", they all lack a date code, they all have pointed-end caps and they all have the Rocket "gap". But they are even bigger and better than Rockets (which, in turn, are bigger and better than the US-made SuperSpeeds)

This chart shows the difference between the numbered (English-made) Aristos such as the #66:

My favourite TTO is the Gillette slim adjustable. To me it was the best one they did, with all the kinks ironed out. I like the long handled version of this razor.

My favourite TTO these days is the Aristocrat #58, followed closely by the #16, both give great shaves but I like the feel of the 58 more.

Martin you're so classy! Tea at the Ritz? Cocktails at the Savoy?

Russ

I have a rocket HD if you want a tester, I am back in gods country this weekend and may well be nipping in to see Luigi on Friday for a dig in the grave.

Yeah and tongue for dinner if I went to the Ritz and the savoy.

Weird that I had a beautiful OC Aristocrat (#47 I think) and could not get a decent shave with it, I sold it and and use the money to buy a backup #58, seems the closed comb Aristocrats suit me better.

Boab that would be very generous.

Give Luigi a call and tell him you know me and it's your photos on his wall, (Yes mate, it's you or your chum displayed in Salondini! getting a shave)He'll let you make an appointment ;)

Luigi has real problems sourcing blades at the moment, I got him 100 Astra SP's, gone in weeks! He's paying through the nose for crappy Wilkinsons from the pharmacy.

I'm backshift on Friday and have to leave West End about 1115hrs, if you could have managed before that I'd have bought you a coffee around the corner, and asked Andy along and cheered him up, hopefully.

PS

There is a fruit and veg shop round from Luigis's (Next to new Turkish barber, no not tried him) has Indian products incl. alum blocks at 60p, if you fancy one let me know, gave Andy one a couple of months ago.

Don't forget the curry shop £6 lunch, one of the best in Glasgow.
