I use mainly boar. Anyone here have experience with Tony's Finest Extra badger at the Golden Nib?
I'm considering 20, 22 and 24 in Extra respectively. I might even entertain 18 mm finest since I have positive experience with the TGN knot boar in 20 and 24 knots ( 22 cream is yet to be placed on handle ). However I haven't enough experience with badger to make sound decision.
Tip softness is the least on mind because that's given with badgers. Stiffness and density are of prime concern.
My limited experience with Silvertips has led me to decide on grade or two lower at TGN. OEM brushes I've tried are Omega 599, Vulfix 2273 and TGN 22 in custom brush ( have 24 and 26 but haven't used ).
It never occurred to me coarse shaft would exist in higher grade badger. Then again I never saw fit to pay exorbitant amount to find out theory. If anything the only one that has met the aforementioned attributes is Vie-Long 16590 black badger. It has softness of their Silvertips or Super Badger according to Best Grooming Tools description.
I don't have any of Vie-Long's Silvertip nor do I have their Best badger grade-Gray badger to confirm that but am glad 16590 surpassed my expectations. Any input is greatly appreciated.
