First soap?

Mama Bear, Scent from Heaven, Mitchell's Wool Fat. Or, more of a safe option, absolutely any Trumper's Soap.
& for around 50p the Palmolive shave stick is amazing performance (my opinion).

grate up the palmolive stick and squish it into a tub like so:

works a treat.

As well as the other suggestions I really do like Nannys soaps , though they're soft not hard and I find they work really well for me. The Yushu is probably my favourite.

I have nothing to add to the above save soak you brush and cover the top of the cake with a little water first - it makes all the difference in the world.
And welcome to the wonderful world of shaving soaps!
