December 2020 Acquisitions

I would have glued the knot together and glued it in the handle and and been very pleased with a nice boar brush!

You got the moral wrong, it's; "Never buy a plastic brush when in need of a good boar." :p ;)

I still have the knot ... it'll go somewhere.

Truth be told, although the boar is a "22mm" and although the handle is a "24mm" it's a really tight fit. I'd have to modify the handle to accept.

It'll fit in something ...

RazoRock 37 German Slant arrived today along with some other goodies (blades and soap) from @Magnum1912 - thanks, matey (y)

I popped it onto a HD Handle (it came with a Bulldog Handle) as I think that reflects the original better. I've pictured it (upper) next to the Merkur 37C (lower) where I hope you can see that the blade gap is much bigger on the RazoRock than the Merkur.

I used a Merkur 37C back in 2014/2015 and really enjoyed it but sold it on when I switched to single edge. Buying in new recently, I was a tad disappointed as it felt very mild indeed. With a few shaves, I've found my groove with it but it still lacks the bite that I remember from those years ago. Fingers crossed the RazoRock relives those memories ...

... and the comb might be the crux of it? Here's my old Merkur 37C from 2013:

It certainly looks a lot more "toothy" than the current model and more like the RazoRock being a copy of the earlier one.

The Rex has arrived, lightning fast delivery from Executive Shaving and they even included a couple packs of free blades which I've not tried before which is nice.

The Envoy itself is lovely, much better in the flesh than most pictures I saw online made it look. The quality of the finish is much better than I'd expected because the pictures I'd seen online made it look very industrial and rugged. In reality it's much more elegant than it seems whilst still feeling very solid if that makes any sense! Can't wait to give it a go tonight.

You may need to tweak that hinge a little!

What razor is that?

It's the latest artisinal kickstarter single edge cut from only the finest recycled washing machines and FIAT cars. It cost me an arm and a leg, and I've been waiting like a year for it ... so I'm super-excited

Nah! Spotted it on another forum so hunted it down ... to be frank, the thrill of the hunt was more fun than I think the shave will be. That said, it's kinda ingenious as the blade slides in under those two tabs on the baseplate and the cap does hold it very firmly in place. It sorta puts me in mind of the vintage Golf razor. I think I'll try it with one of those budget Vidyuts

On the upside, I got a pack of Wilkettes chucked into the deal ...

Thanks for that, a very interesting looking design and I'd be intrigued in how it performs during the shave.
