Classic Rock albums

I had a quick Google, and came op with this site

There wasn't much in the list that I didn't agree with, but obviously that's a personal thing.

The albums I DON'T own in this list's top 50 are ;11,16,18,28,31,32, 36, 38, 40, 41,42, 46 ,47.
Not through choice, apart from Rush obviously. Have a listen to Buckcherry, modern band, sound kinda stuck in 1970 - 1976 (bit like me) Oh! and Big Star under-rated very influential.

11th commandment;- Though shall let it rock.

I'm a fan of Big Star as well .

Well I'm cooler than I thought - apparently - of the top 50 I own 16 of them  and 14 of the other 57. I'm quite chuffed by that (since my music collection is rather catholic (as in broad or liberal scope; comprehensive, rather than related to the Vatican) - anything goes.. apart from cRap, Hip-Hop, Trance and all this new-fangled clubby shite. Music needs to have a rhythm and a melody... not just a thumping bass line.

Bit of a Radio 2 / redneck / safe list. Doesn't rock include pre-1965 and post 1980's? Where's the rock'n'roll, blues, reggae, punk, indie and grunge?

Classic rock is an oxymoron, combine that with Canadian classic rock...

Bachman Turner Overdrive?

Classic Canadian rock from the early seventies. You ain't seen nothing yet...

God I feel old...

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Chronicle *ducks* I now it's a best of but a great note in classic rock history.

Looking at the British side then you can't go wrong with pretty much anything by the Faces or Beck-Ola by Jeff Beck.

Ageing punk rocker checking in here. "Classic Rock" isn't my usual choice of listening matter, but I'm embarrassingly conversant with that top 107 list: here's a few that didn't seem to make it:
Aerosmith: Rocks
Black Sabbath: Sabotage
AC/DC: If You Want Blood You Got It
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts: I Love Rock and Roll and Album
Neil Young: Re-Ac-Tor

All pretty straightforward balls out rock 'n' roll type stuff from the 70's and early 80's.

Hate to admit it but despite being 51, I much prefer today's music to the music of my youth, in particular bands like the Killers, Kings of Leon etc. When I look back and think most of the 70's music was just S**T. Sorry guys

However two classic albums from my younger years are Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen (1974) - Jungleland still makes the hairs on the bak of neck stand up after 35 years of playing and London's Calling by The Clash (1979). Both have stood the test of time IMO...

Cheers guys, I read the thread to Rush. Antdad is right on the money:

Nothing by Rush then.

Those other suggestions should keep me busy for a while though.

I'll need to pick up Neil Young's Re-Ac-Tor Arrowhead, he knocked my socks off at Glastonbury last year and I've only got two albums here.

Hi P, I'm a huge Neil fan, got just about everything. The Re-actor album is a trifle...difficult! You may enjoy it, I have tried. Many times.
Try Freedom, Mirrorball (with Pearl Jam) or After The Gold Rush. These albums are a fairly good introduction to an artist whose styles are difficult to pin down. Genius? Yes. Ornery old cuss? deffo!

A rather charming and classical Young performance at the BBC...takes a couple of minutes to get into the song but I think it's worth it.

Try "Arc" if you really want to upset the neighbours...no don't.

To add to r62's list I also like "Tonights the Night" and "Rust Never Sleeps" and "Harvest" of course.

Love this...
