I have a soft-spot for the 1914, as you guys know. I see the queer top cap as like the reverse doors on classy vintage cars that you're always on the wrong side of because they open the wrong way, but it's still classy and you don't really mind ... because it's classy.
The 1924 has a fun cap - the fun is not letting the cap ping against the handle and mark it. Duh! Hold it by the handle, flick open and click-clunk closed. It also makes owning mint capped 1924s a real joy as everyone manages to launch the cap into the handle at least once.
I agree (but of course I would ) ... it shows how good the mechanism on the 1912 is. It's the razor equivalent of the classic Zippo lighter: simple, functional, intuitive and tactile.
