Pleased you like it. Like I said before, the Gillette Winner Black is best after it's first shave.Friday 2nd April
French Pink Clay & Charcoal Face Soap
Wickham's 1912 Club Cola Shaving Soap
hjm Professional (Boar)
Yaqi Katana DLC w/Star Bakelite Handle
Gillette Winner Platinum (2)
Floïd (Black) Aftershave
What a joy!
Now, bear in mind that I am using half a blade this shave is akin to the 3rd or 4th if it was used in its original double edge format. Significantly smoother, this time. Significantly. While on the first go, I rather got the impression that it was more very good stainless than platinum, this shave was the reverse: super-smooth, like the Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum with all the effective sharpness masked behind that but very much there.
This is absolutely a 9/10 blade and I would venture as far as saying (okay, off just two shaves) that this is better than ... no, I'll say that I enjoyed it more than the Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum. I rate the Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum around 8.5/10 the same I do for many Super Platinum blades. I think that figure could rise if I used them some more and got to really understand the subtleties of the blade. The Gillette Winner Platinum is straight in as a 9/10.
Similarities between these two blades will inevitably be drawn as this is clearly a celebrity endorsement; than, and the stainless of the same endorsement is actually made for GIllette by Vertice, presumably their "One" blade. It appears to be a hurried marketing decision which does look a lot like, "what blade do we have kicking about that we can rebrand?" ... and the Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum was that blade. Other folks point at the Gillette Wilkinson Sword which is a stainless blade that I suppose could have received the platinum treatment, but furthermore begs the question why that was not re-used for the regular Winner Stainless.
It's a puzzle. Thoughts?
Either way, this blade is a "winner".
I was mightily impressed with them. Of the Gillettes I've tried over the last three months I'd go Silver Blue, Winner, 365, 7 o'clock green then yellow. This may just mean I have shed loads more Gillettes to try, but they're definitely one I'd happily put top ten of everything I've used.Pleased you like it. Also, it works really well with my OC Gillette heads, in particular my Old Type.
I see this blade like a wolf in sheep's clothing, seems inconspicuous to begin with but produces far better results than expected.
I think all modern Gillette DE blades are all largely excellent, but some will suit your face and razors better than others.I was mightily impressed with them. Have they changed the artwork recently on the Wickhams ?Friday 2nd April

Not recently ... that was the original design! Pre-production, even as I think he went for the white label right at the point it went to market. The original design was to have a different shade for each scent.Have they changed the artwork recently on the Wickhams ?
Thank you for you’re reply really like the simplicity of the white tub think purchase is on the cardsNot recently ... that was the original design! Your never ending source of Japanese ladies is fathomless, it would seem...This shave was brought to you from the back end of beyond and themed 'SOTD'

SOTD - Show Off The Derriere
Themed from my photo showing the rear ends of this shaves chosen few. Much the same as all my other SOTD's this week, but to add a different dimension, show the same thing, from behind.
Bottom end - Muhle R89
Bottom feeder - Gillette 7 O'Clock
Bottom burps - Yaqi Dandelion
Bottom of the bucket - Extro Arancia
My arse - Extro Arancia splash
So the back end of the week and the final outing for the R89 during this full week of its shaving presence.
It may not be the be all and end all in terms of the word close but it remains as I have always said, an absolute blinder of a razor. Honest, secure, confidence inspiring and a classic piece of 'getting it right'. If you are new to DE shaving then look no further to get you on the ladder. Then again you can have a ladder a few rungs long and need climb no further. This razor could happily see you through life and deliver time after time. But unfortunately there is a whole world of shiny metal out there, temptation, places like this and the enablers you get being part of a forum. Fortunately there are wives, partners and bank managers. Choose your sin.
A great week with the Muhle and I do have a lot to thank it for. Without the 89 I wouldn't have learnt how to shave better and parted with far too much money getting this far. But shit, I feel great for it and never had a finer shaving life.
A wonderful end to seven days of the R89, smooth as buggery and as fresh as adairydaisy. I may not be the rear of the year butt I might be the biggest arse.
So as an end of week treat you can have some fine Japanese ladies to see you out. Let's have some of those 'Bed in' girls. Have. A great weekend and wish everyone the very best.
There were probably three iterations of that ...Thank you for you’re reply really like the simplicity of the white tub think purchase is on the cards
