SHAVETTE Of The Day

I quite like the design and engineering of this little razor. I just wish it were made out of stainless steel :)

Soap: Tabac
Brush: AP shaves cashmere synth knot
Razor: AliExpress Feather-style shavette
Blade: Schick Proline

An incredible shave with a new blade. Parts of my cheeks and neck were BBS with just one WTG pass! Can't quite believe how good this razor is.

The Proline is a nice blade. Shave no. 1 was sharp but not *too* sharp.

How do you like it?
I like it a lot actually.......the blade 'sits' very well in he holder and while I like the AC types a lot.... I find the shorter length more maneuverable. The fit and finish of the razor is good. I have a few Univinlions razors and they seem to be made to a high standard. A few of the chinese razors I have bought recently seem to be thinner and lighter requiring a slight change in technique to get a good shave
I also like the fact that I can continue to use the seemingly endless supply of DE blades which I currently own!

Look a little closer...

Although this is a Parker-style swinging arm designed for half-DE blades, some other types of blade also seem to fit. This is a 50mm Feather Pro Super.

After using a straight razor for a little while, I've found I much prefer a milder edge v the scary-sharp half DE blade in a shavette. Although a mild edge can feel a bit scritchy it's MUCH more forgiving and a much more relaxed, enjoyable experience.

So I thought I'd experiment with Feather AC-style blades. Satanfriendly very kindly sent me a few to try out :) and the results have been very promising so far.

First couple of shaves with the Feather Pro Super were very sharp. The plus side is the blade just glides effortlessly through stubble with very little resistance. The down side is the usual shavette feeling of shaving with a razor full of very angry bees which will sting you at the slightest provocation.

After that it became noticeably milder and at about shave number 7 it started to feel "scritchy", just the way I like it ie there's a feeling of resistance to the blade as it cuts hair - but it still cuts OK. Today was shave number 9. Would be nice if it will last another half-dozen shaves before it becomes too blunt.

Also in the sample pack are Schick Proline, Kai Captain, and Kai Captain Mild. Will report back as I get the chance to try them out.

Note: The blade won't fit on the pins inside the shavette but friction alone seems to hold it in place just fine. I'd recommend placing the front of the blade just behind the round point of the shavette and let it overlap at the heel, as in the picture (safer). YMMV.

Innovative! With care it's no more or less dangerous that if it were fully encapsulated in the head. In fact, I'd suggest it would be more safe as you'd be much more aware of the blade rather than a mere slip of a protrusion as per the AC razors.

DE shavettes often, by happy coincidence, will take injector blades as well - like AC blades, I think their increased rigidity makes for a safer and more satisfying shave. See: https://www.theshavingroom.co.uk/community/index.php?threads/shavette-with-a-twist.30203/

Nicely played!

An AC blade shavette is my favourite way to shave so far. I like my traditional straights too but I've been struggling to keep them sharp. That's to be expected, I guess. I am enjoying learning to hone but if it doesn't work out I'll always have my Feather copy.

My New Purchase Dark Stag Kamisori Shavette arrived Christmas Eve looking forward to my First Shave with it Also my Two other Shavette's Dovo, and Focus Slim Al Shavette's both give excellent Shaves (for me)
