SOTD : Saturdy 28th March to 3th April 2020

29 March 2020 – afternoon – no rush these days:
Three & ½ days shave. I have obtained a Braveheart head (from Executive Shaving) and used it on the MÜHLE pole. Braveheart is described as giving an “assertive” shave and I must say it certainly does! This shave was the best so far since starting again with DE shaving. I would say it was a 98% BBS result. I did have three nicks due no doubt to being too enthusiastic. Brian suggests in his video to use the more benign MÜHLE to tidy up which is something to consider. As usual the Proraso Blue cream produced a first class lather.

Pre-shave: Aldi bath soap & Nuage Shave Oil
Brush: Badger no name
Razor: Braveheart head on MÜHLE R89 pole
Blade: Bic Platinum Chrome
Cream: Proraso Blue (Aloe)

Alum Block: Ajanta
After Shave Balm: Bustamente
Bold = change from last shave

....
A great shave today with the Souplex and Bic. I can't quite believe I hated the Bic blade so much the first few times I tried, I was quick to blame the blade but with my technique improving it's testament to how important it is.
....
Interesting I had the same experience ten years ago and just recently when I got back to DE shaving.

Sunday

Vitos Super Red
PAA ‘The Rocket' 26mm synth
Face lather
Rockwell 6c R4
Gillette Wilkinson Sword (2)
Thayer's Lavender and Aloe Vera
Santa Maria Del Fiore splash

Another R4 sweet spot shave this afternoon. The Gillette Wilkies pair beautifully in my Rockwell; and ye Vitos delivered its usual blend of slickness and unctuousness. I must get the soap to match the Santa Maria Del Fiore splash.

Sun 29th March

Jayaruh Syn No67
MWF
Mongoose B3
Schick Proline [ 7 ]
Grey Flannel A/S Lotion

A bit of a Classic these days the Mongoose B3 is a bit on the hefty side, but as I have developed a light touch I get on with this and Heavyweights in my collection. A very pleasant Shave this morning using the last knockings of the MWF, though I have got a replacement.

Sunday AM 2020-03-29

Rooney 2/1 Faux Horn Finest (22/52)
Acqua di Parma Colonia shaving soap (vintage)
Paradigm Titanium II/UFO Titan Fine
Wilkinson London Bridge (9)
Acqua di Genova 1853 aftershave

Some of my favorite Italian software. I enjoyed listening to a Requiem Mass by Gounod while I shaved. I am not really a fan of masses or opera, but the music brought back good memories of living in an apartment above a liquor store when I was in college, hearing through the open window on warm days the 78rpm voice of Enrico Caruso played by the Mafioso types that hung out in the liquor store's back room. After my shave I put on a shirt and tie, possibly the first time I've worn a tie since I retired 10 years ago. Even back then I only wore a tie when at business trip meetings. But today it just felt good for some reason to have it on for a couple hours...

@chard52142 That lather looks awesome. I struggle to get it like that with soap. I've been contemplating Tabac for years.
Hi and much thanks for your appreciation. I struggled in the beginning too but found that by adding water slowly and working on it will result in a great lather. In the picture, I only flick the brush once after soaking so it is quite wet. Best is in a bowl but can do too with face just takes longer. Tabac is great if lather correctly...super slick it will be! Take care..enjoy the lather & the shaves!

@SpeedyPC Cold water from the tap. I was forced into this once when no hot water was available. I decided if it happens again, I'll go without. Big respect.
@NatJag I'm a cold water shaver all year around, because, I've stop waiting for hot water from the tap and it's a waste of time.

See link below FYI and why.

I've never had better shaves when using cold water, no matter the season.

Sunday 29th March

Soap - Palmolive Stick (grated)
Brush - YaqI Chianti 24mm Synthetic
Razor - Merkur Progress #3.5
Blade - Gillette Silver Blue (1)
Post - Brut Sport Style Aftershave

The Progress continues to impress, so much so that I will be trying to source a Digress or Mergress.
While I really like Palmolive Stick, it smells like a granny's bathroom to me. I keep meaning to try to mix some essential oil with some, to try to bring some more pleasant scent to it
Brut Sport Style Aftershave to finish

Ready for work tomorrow

Be careful out there everyone

First Line Shave are a small artisan company and the two scents Blue and Red are not only fantastic but a portion of the sales go to assist our frontline law enforcement and firefighters, EMS etc. I have and love the Blue but today I reached for the Red. The blue is a dupe of Calvin Klein Eternity and the Red is Dior Fahrenheit. What a great scent! Have the matching AS for both.

Merkur 34G was the all out gangsta razor of choice today! It is such a great razor and a real looker too. Pretty easy to travel with this one or its chrome sibling the 34C which is also in the collection. Loaded up with a fresh Voskhod on this quiet Sunday.

A fantastic three pass BBS shave! I mean wow! What a perfect shave! Topped it off with some D&G The One because this combo just might be “The One”....

To all the Brothers and Sisters out there keeping our streets safe and tending to those of us who are injured, sick and in need of help, bless you and please watch six and stay safe. Thank you for your service.

Sunday 29 March
EJ. DE89 razor
Gillette Silver Blue blade
Omega Pure Badger brush
Truefitt and Hill Pre-shave oil
Thiers Issard Vetiver shaving soap
Executive Shaving Citrus Kiss ASB
M&S Vetiver and Cedarwood EDT

EJ DE89 was brought into play after a hiatus of some 6 months. Paired with the GSB it gave me a BBS shave after 3 passes. Will now be returning to my rotation

A big +1 for cold water shaving.
