SOTD : SATURDAY 26TH OCTOBER - FRIDAY 1 NOVEMBER 2019

Tuesday AM 2019-10-29

Moss Anniversary Slate scuttle
Rooney 3/3 Porcelain Finest (26/59)
XPEC Original shaving cream (first Forester Milan version)
Wolfman WR1-SB Antique Bronze/Darwin
Wizamet Super Iridium (6)
Aramis Tuscany aftershave

An excellent shave. The first version of the XPEC is significantly better, for me, than the current one, and I am too old to worry about the risks of the parabens in it.

Tabac Tuesday-29th Oct.

Simpson Chubby 1 / Maggards 2band
Tabac Soap
Alu General/ Windrose handle
Feather Proguard [ 5 ]
Tabac A/S Lotion

Today I transferred my on the go Proguard to the Alu. General. At the same time I fitted the head with a spare Windrose handle that I had. With a good Tabac lather, the Razor/Blade combo was a revelation. Though one feels the guarded blade during during initial clearance it then smoothes out. I was able to work away without any problems and attained probably my best ever Shave with this Razor - a Face Stroker. The new handle really felt nice during use as it gave nice balance to the head.

SOTD 10/29/19

Blackland Vector
Schick Proline Blade
PAA Charcoal/Menthol Preshave Cube
WCS Best Badger Brush
CBL Three Pines Lanolin Soap
Old spice AS Splash
PAA Cooling Mysterium Serum

Great shave today. I realize now why I love my Vector. It mowed through nine days of beard growth effortlessly leaving me with a nick-free face and dome shave. I was unable to shave while staying with my wife in the hospital. She's back and all is well.

Enjoy your shaves,

Jeff

Proraso Sensitive Preshave
Scottish Fine Soaps Traditional Shaving Soap
Simpson 'The Duke 2' in Best
TNNSER 3D with a GEM SS PTFE blade (#7)
Thayers Witch Hazel with Cucumber
Palmer's for Men Moisturiser
Sierran Breeze AS

I don't think I have ever had 7 shaves from a GEM Blade.....and I think there are more to be had!
2 passes for a 'Face Feeler' and very good 13 hrs on :)

Tuesday evening

Phoenix and Beau Denali
Yaqi Red Marble Tuxedo 24mm synth
Face lather
MÜHLE R41 head on iKon SS handle
Feather Hi-Stainless #1
Thayer's Rose Petal and Aloe Vera
Fine Snake Bite after shave

Some may question my use of a ‘cold' soap and equally cold (eventually) after shave; together with my habitual cold water routine at the start of November.

There's also the decision to put arguably the sharpest DE blade currently in production inside the head of a, shall we say, assertive razor which has been given more authority by sitting it atop a heavy steel handle.

Would I have changed anything? Not a bit. Three lovely passes with no touch-ups and a cue ball finish. My face and hands are currently cryogenic after the Snake Bite...

I'll say this though; the Feather is sharp, but I still maintain it's not necessarily the most comfy blade out there. GSBs and Med Preps are still up there for me.

And after three days of a shaving drought I finally managed to have some time off home and some shower room time. So for this evening my shave brought with it the theme 'My Favourite things'

IMG_20191029_200431.jpg

So come on folk you all know the song. Put on your best Alpine dresses, spread your arms wide and sing sing sing

sound of music.jpg

Tap drops on noses
And whiskers on faces
Bright stainless Generals and warm flannel graces
Kai Captain blades and the joy that they bring
These are a few of my favourite thing(s)

Carbon coloured Cadman and Miles Per Hour initials
Artificial bristles, all bells and whistles
All to shift bristles
Signature soap in silver screw top tins
These are a few of my favourite things

Scents in glass bottles from Banana Republic
Gorgeous orange fragrance that drifts through the public
Silver-white bristles that fall in to sinks
These are a few of my favourite things

When the blade bites
When your face stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favourite things
Have a great shave and then I don't feel bad

Witch Hazel on faces and whiskers down sink
Happy smiling face and all clean and pink
Oh for the pleasure a good shave brings
These are a few of my favourite things
of my favourite things

So yeh a great shave. Feeling smoother than Julie Andrews bottom and sweeter than an Alpine meadow (and certainly more orange)

And if you think I am going to sign off with a full rendition of the song sang by the rather delightful Maria then you are sadly mistaken. A few of my favourite things? They have to include some Japanese metal ladies and so I end my SOTD with some Mary's Blood

Have a most wonderful second part of the week you of this bristle removing community and I hope you find equal solace in some of your favourite things.......and don't forget the Alpine looking dresses

Tuesday 29th October

Tabac Stick
YaqI Chianti 24mm Synthetic
Rockwell 6C R4
GSB (4)
Vitos Tobacco Aftershave
Mr Perfume Tobacco Vanille Oil

I pushed the Silver Blue to four shaves and it performed very well, still sharp and smooth
The Tabac Stick, provided an excellent lather and to my nose has a stronger scent than the bowl soap.

I arrived home from work today to find a red card left by the postman . . . Could it be my Karve ? . . . . I'll find out tomorrow morning !

Razor: R41 + iKon Bulldog
Blade: GSB (1)
Brush: Yaqi Purple Haze Mew Brown
Soap: Signature Soaps Leodis
Pre: Proraso White
ASL: Osma Alum
ASB: CK Eternity
Scent: CK Eternity

3 days of growth to take down so I reached for the R41 (2013). I have a lot of love for this razor and don't understand the fear that surrounds it. I've always had a great shave from it with minimal alum feedback. Today was no different.

The Leodis is a lovely smelling soap from Signature Soaps and will appeal to those who like Hibernia and Coria. A single load provided more than enough slick lather for 3 passes. Based on the performance of Brian's other soaps, I'm not surprised this one performed as well as it did and I'm similarly expecting the others I've recently purchased to perform just as well.
