SOTD 18th Jan Vintage month

Brush - Yaqi Sagrada Familia- ever present and ever dependable.
Soap - A&E Socal Hipster- loving the way the scent develops when lathering. Beautifully slick lather. Fast becoming my favourite soap.
Razor - Ever Ready 1912 - 2 passes for a super smooth and close finish. Love using this razor.
Blade - Gem#5 - perfect partner to the Ever Ready.
Post - P&B Spitfire - lovely smokey and leather scent to finish.

This has been my best shave in this Vintage Month.
Stay safe people and enjoy your shaves.
I will be trying the same razor tomorrow after work for the very first time ever using anything like this. It's all thanks to a very generous @pjgh . I don't want to shave before work with it as I doubt I will have enough shirts to mop up the blood lmao.
Love your photo and spooky you showing it the very day I received it in the post.

An SOTD with the theme 'What was wasn't and what wasn't was'

IMG_20210118_095149.jpg

Started my shaving routine with great intentions to go down the road of the aluminium General, ADP and the Mew Brown, being among my chosen shaving weapons for this week while onboard the boat.

'Job this afternoon has gone down to just one tug and the job tonight has gone back to midday tomorrow'

Sod this for a game of cowboys and so home I went, abandoning the shave before getting much further than 'these will do, take a picture'.

No doubt you will probably get the same photo again in a slightly different presentation sometime soon. So this was the shave that wasn't.

And the shave that was

IMG_20210118_193252.jpg

Wasn't but is now - Occams Commander
It was this one - Kai Captain
Has to be me please - Wee whisky barrel
What donkey? - La Savonniere Moulin

A shave with a difference with the rarely used Commander and donkey shaving soap. I imagine it must be quite difficult for a donkey to shave and I don't actually see that many queueing outside the local barbering establishments. Ah. Lock down, there is my answer . But they do make a cracking shaving soap. Clever creatures these donkeys and they do like to be well presented.

The Commander. I am still in two frames of mind with this razor. I do find the blade loading a little inconvenient and a little strange and if not careful it is quite easy to misalign the blade as I found on a past visitation much to my displeasure. But it is an Occams and it seems to be a feature of theirs. Make it awkward. Secondly and probably because of the blade loading, I find the head way oversized and it lacks that accuracy I can gain with more convetional heads. Compared to the Colonial V2 it is like Comparing a child's sand pit spade with a payloader bucket.

But, and here is the big but, misgivings aside, it does deliver incredibly smooth and efficient shaves free of fear factor and with great ease. This time was no different. It certainly takes some time to get the measure of the head but once there it is bloody quick and bloody effective. It is the same payloader bucket digging the child's sand pit. A question of one sweep and voila ici, fluff one moment gone the next.

Certainly assisted on its way with the donkey soap which I could never say a bad word for outside of the price. But it takes little or nothing to do a great lathering job. No hassle and no scent so wear what you want on top. Acqua di Donkey Piddle anyone?

The wee whisky barrel brush does exactly what one could expect from a brush and full marks to the Gentlemen's Groom Room for creating this little wonder.

So whinges and whines to one side, one very easy and close shave delivered with donkey grin factor.

And I thought that was illegal? But may be this should be. Japanese female fronted death metal. Undecided here.

And may you all, your families and friends be safe and healthy during these challenging days. I do love you all

SOTD 19/01/21

Pre-shave:
Shower, Kiehl's Facial Wash, followed by cold water splash.
Soap: LEA.
Brush: Shavemac 'The Flat Top' Silvertip.
Razor: Above The Tie Windsor SS-R1 (Bamboo handle).
Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock (Green) (Day 4).
Post: Cold water splash, Floid Vigoroso Aftershave.

In 2019 SWMBO and I had a cheeky short break in Spain; I stumbled upon some LEA shave sticks in the local supermarket, which have been gathering dust sonce our return - having enjoyed the face lather experience of Arko, I thought about giving the LEA a try.

A very decent, protective, slick lather - not sure about the scent - a very smooth shave - 2 passes WTG and XTG, DFS+/BBS- finish, with no issues to report. A good sploosh of Floid Vigoroso - it smells and feels so good when it hits my face, lovely stuff.

I am falling in love with the ATT SS-R1, a great razor - but today, the star of the show was the Floid V.

I ordered some Gillette Winner blades, from the Razor Blade Club, which have just arrived, looking forward to trying those soon.

All the best - hope everyone is safe, well and sane,

Chris

Today -

prep - facial scrub
razor - ATT Calypso - R plate
blade - Med Prep (2)
brush - Vie-Long anniversary two-band (the most beautiful knot I own - it's a work of art)
soap - PAA - CaD - vegan
post - witch hazel
a/s - 4711 (I'm aff the gear - honestly)
balm - Gomez Barberia
scent - Gotas Frescas cologne.

All good - barbershop is one of my favourite scent classes - but such a difficult thing to define? For me - a light, bright cologne sort of thing - an antidote - to the fact, that in Scotland it is completely dark between - oh - November and March. The scent is so hard to define - you get myriad variations - I get shaved in Istanbul whenever I go there - there, it smells of lemon - Arko and then lemon cologne - I quite liked the fact you are served a tiny cup of coffee while you are waiting. I have the Stirling Barbershop - but it smells entirely different to me - nice soap base granted. The CaD - is my current favourite - dovetails a treat with the 4711 - Gotas Frescas to finish - Spanish - the name means - fresh drops - very good - if you can find it.

Yours all - have entirely great shaves - one and all - I.

p.s - thank you - all who responded to my last post - be that - in public or by private message. I appreciate it - social media doesn't need to be a nasty thing - we have a nice civilised corner of the t'interweb?

@Blademonkey - picture for you.

Wed 20th SOTD with New Razor & Soap
Soap
Stirling Pumpkin Spice - Ooooo smell so delicious!!
Brush Yaqi 26mm Orange Black Synthetic
Razor Yaqi Dual Comb with Nice Patterned handle
Blade PearlMax (Y) Stainless 2nd
Post & Aftershaves Ice Water + Thayers + Hyaluronic + Aqua Velva Musk
Wow...Stirling soaps sure deliver, especially for the scent. The smell off-puck & during lathering was fantastically delicious... hahaha. My wife thought it's some tasty snacks. Really unique scent! More than mild strength but not overpowering. Absolutely smell like something tasty. Creamy and slickness too.
Shave with this dual comb razor paired with the blade was great. The overall feel of the razor is mild but surprisingly the OC side is milder than the SB side. Shave with OC for the left side & SB for the right. Very smooth and comfortable 3pass without any issues for a BBS result. Very surprised with the efficiency & that with a low-ranked blade! If using a better blade...mmm
Enjoyed this shave with the delicious soap and good razor (with a nice handle)! Rating 10/10!
