SOTD 15/8/20

Prep- warm water face wash
Soap- Martin de Candre original
Brush- Simpson t3
Razor- 64 slim adjustable
Blade- Super shave X (4)
A/S- Extro Cosmesi O'selvaggio

4th shave with the super shave x blade and it's still going strong. Easily get 5 shaves from it. Will get one more then retire it happy. Never push a blade past 3 but this thing is incredible. MCD original was very nice. Typical MDC performance. 10 second swirl on the soap and plenty for 3 passes and pulled out soap from the brush for a clean up. 64 slim is my go to razor these days. Effortless, efficient and smooth. Extro paired wonderfully with the soap.
Happy Saturday gentlemen. (y)

PS-Grapeseed Oil ( jury still out )
Soap-Trumpers Sandalwood*
Brush-Proraso
Blade-Tatra
Razor-Leaf*
AS-Nivea Balm + drop of lavender oil.

This soap came from a load of wet shave items passed on by my father and probably 20 years old. Rock hard but still lathered perfectly.
Used this razor for the first time with indifferent results cant seem to cope with heavier growth. Perhaps more practice needed or a blade change.

Cold Water Shave
Brush: Simpson Duke 3 Best Badger
Soap: Signature Soap Coria
Razor: Yaqi Adjustable V1
Blade: Gillette 7oC Green (1)
Post shave: Cold water splash
Balm: Barts Balm Amber and Moroccan Jasmine Balm & Lotion
Aftershave: Copycat Executive

Well,well,well!
I summoned up the courage to give the Yaqi AV1 a run out this morning.
I chose @BrianH 's Signature Coria soap for the job, these soaps are up there with the best i use, the scent strength and lather are just right for me.
I loaded a 7'O'C Green Permasharp stainless, not the sharpest blade i own by a long shot, however, its a safe bet.
I set the razor to #1, lathered up and started the shave, again, as always with a new razor i start riding the cap slightly dropping the handle until the razor starts cutting, the angle is actually about the same as any DE i use, a couple of strokes in and i am finding it a really mild shave, dry the hands off, Loosen the main thread using bottom knurled button, back off the White collar, move the adjuster to #3 then tighten it all back up (its a bit of a pain to adjust mid shave, but it all works).
Definitely more blade feel, not overly aggressive, therefore i backed it off a bit and settled on 2.5, that's more like it for me.
I completed a WTG & XTG passes, then some buffing ATG under the jaw on the devils whirlpools.
A final rinse and i have a DFS+ finish, no cut or other issues. i decided to leave it there for today.
So, Yes its an adjustable. Yes it works quite well. Yes i started to quite like it in the hand during the shave. Yes, i would recommend you try one if you can and fancy an adjustable. Yes its a very good budget blade holder.
Any minus points, not really as it is a budget razor, it is simple and worth the copper coins it costs.

I stripped the razor down to show the simple parts, all together it works.

Kind of reminds me of a Gibbs. Like how easily it comes apart for a proper cleaning too. Very interesting. Maybe worth a punt.

Heritage collection shaving (HCS) were doing a Gibbs replica. I turned out Yaqi were the people the manufactures had got to make it. Once the design was approved, HCS never heard anything more from them. As they didn't own the design they couldn't do much about it.

From their insta post.
Just wanted everyone to know where we stand with the Gibbs replica. I've debated saying anything but now I'm getting asked questions about our Gibbs project and I want to be as transparent as I can be with each of you.
So from what I can tell the MFG I commissioned to make ours apparently had them (Yaqi) make it.
But as of our last design sample when I said to them it was close but I needed one last fix. The adjuster dial is still not working correctly. So after that last request to make yet another change ....They ceased communication with me on it. Both companies did.
Although I did not own the patent to the razor nor do I currently...I never was going to stamp the Gibbs name to it. I was calling it the Heritage Adjustable Homage to Gibbs Replica using the same respect as I have with the other projects.
So as of now the Gibbs project is on hold and I will announce any other news when I have it.
I have another manufacturer that makes our Merit design and is NOT a shaving company. They are engineers with the equipment to make a quality Gibbs replica.
This is why we did not want to take preorders. I believe in giving the best quality product at the most reasonable price and we weren't quite there yet with the quality.
However YAQI razor has decided to make a few subtle changes and place the design in the market. We wish them the best of luck with their version of it and we will continue to update you when we have more information
We have always operated with integrity and transparency so we will find the right MFG to continue to assist us in bringing this project to life.
Thanks for your continued patience and support.

A nice two and a half pass shave today. Some feedback from Mr Alum, which surprised me.

That's a bit shady. Not necessarily illegal but definitely shady.

Yeah, I read all the stories that the Heritage project was sort of hijacked, mind you in this day and age they should have had some form of written legal protection Before entering into any planned production with another company.
Bloody hell, the Japanese bought ships, stripped them down piece by piece and learned how to build them without plans, a razor would have been an easy Facsimile.
Hopefully a lesson learned.
A penny earned is a penny earned and there seems to be no scruples at all these days.
It seems fair play is for losers in the new business world.

Carbon CX 316L
Gillette Silver Blue
Saponificio Varesino HMW 2.0
Acqua Di Parma Barbiere shaving cream and aftershave balm
Acqua Di Parma Colonia EDC
Soundtrack: Wilma Archer 'A Western Circular'

It's been a while due to life's many distractions. Hope everyone is doing well? On to the shave.

I sold my original Carbon CX at the beginning of May but decided to buy another one this week. Thanks to two Gents I managed to piece one together.
The shave was the best one I've had for a long time. Why did I sell this razor in the first place? God only knows...

Enjoy your weekend folks.

LEA shave stick

I should be on holiday, but I'm not. Every year me and the family go to the same place just outside Valencia with the in-laws, and I take part in the local 7.25 km (yes, really) road race - that's the 2019 race t-shirt as the background. So I decided to dig out my travel shave kit to remind me of happier times.

The Super-Max blades are pretty crappy, but work out at a penny a shave. They felt less rough than I remember, but the alum let me know that they weren't (maybe this was cheating - I don't travel with alum). the LEA I picked up from the local Mercadona on a previous trip because with its case it's a little more travel-friendly than the Palmolive stick I used to use. The brush does its job, and dries quickly which is a bonus for travel.

Like when I'm on holiday, I had a shower first. This wasn't a great shave, but was a nice relaxing one which reminded me of how things used to be, and that counts for a lot. And there won't be a fourteen day quarantine period after it either!
