SOTD: Saturday January 28 - Friday 3 February 2023.

And a first entry for this week of SOTD's and a first run out for the newly arrived Lambda Athena. So a very sheep based theme for this evening and so named, 'Athena. A sheep in wolf's clothing or mutton dressed as lamb?'

I was going to put 'No sheep til Buxton' by the Macc Lads in here, but it comes out as an age restricted video. I didn't know anyone on here was under the age of 18 and assumed we were all closer to 81. Ah well.

Baa baa black sheep - Lambda Athena
And dream of sheep - Feather
Who kept the sheep - AP Shaving 24mm Cashmere
The sheep look up - Signature Soaps Londinium
Your mother was a sheep - L'Occitane Cade

'So get me right. You want us to shorn this lot. With a fucking razor?'

Lambda. The eleventh letter in the modern Greek alphabet and the twelfth in the old Greek alphabet. So somewhere back in time someone must have stolen a letter making some old Greek words an impossibility to pronounce these days.

Lambda. Pieces of shaving art created in modern Greece and items to be stared at only. Good God, even the box is a piece of wonderment which opens and closes far better than any IKEA cabinet ever does.

20230128_181920.jpg

And comes complete with some obscure blades I have never heard of. BIC, yes. But BIC Astors? The others look to be Russian in origin. Do I use them or post them back to a Mr V Putin? Loose in an envelope.

To complete the package a little leaflet and a personal certificate. Interesting that in the purchase process I was asked if I would like any particular serial number in the batch. What a waste of bloody time that was as some other bugger had already taken my choice. So if anyone on here has 22-222, me and you at 8, name your place.

So, what about the razor you boring old fart?

I was sold on the Athena the first time I saw one and it became my number one priority must have (Mrs Satanfriendly ranks around 37th). And after some months here it is. Not only is it aesthetically beautiful but it also beautifully engineered. Everything fits together with such precision and accuracy and as @Tony'schin made mention, it just oozes quality.

In passing I rank around 103rd in Mrs Satanfriendly's books

20230128_182049.jpg

And in use?

Didn't someone make a remark it is similar to a Feather AS? From what I remembered about the Feather it was one of the mildest razors I have ever met and I don't really recall it feeling quite like the Athena. I wouldn't describe it as mild, or aggressive, but personal thoughts are it sits somewhere in the middle. I was expecting a mild stance and so I loaded with a Feather in anticipation. As it is I found it to be a great pairing but not in the same sense as trying to make an 89 perform with a bit more edginess, but more just a certain synergy which works brilliantly.

It is buttery smooth and efficient and not one bit of that Iamgoingtoopenyouupability cried out. It is just wonderful in every way, whichever direction you are shaving. With, across, against, it doesn't care as they all feel assured and comfortable. It just gets on and does a superb job and it just feels right.

Absolutely delighted after the first shave and I am sure the way it has impressed me so far will only but continue.

The end results were one very happy and close finish. A splash of Witch Hazel, a massage of Cade balm and shaven life feels heavenly kind.............It is a shame I am ranked 103 but I can always talk to the pillow.

But I never did buy this razor to shave with. I bought it to stare at. And on the subject of staring, it seems sometime since I gave you some Yoshi to stare at so it is over to Aldious to sing you out...

The macc lads! That's a blast from the past. Imagine the youth of today listening to Now He's a P**f or Sweaty Betty. They'd have an aneurism! Not saying I'm a fan but they certainly made an impression.

Bic Astor I believe are the budget line from Bic and have been around a long time. They could have included the Chrome Platinums with a razor like that!

28/1/23

Pre - Palmolive
Brush - Yaqi Cashmere
Soap - Tabac Stick
Razor - Gillette Rocket
Blade - Dorco Titan (1)
Post - Effect Cucumber
AS - Denim Original

Most of my non 3 piece razors get neglected, so I'm going to try to just use my Rocket for the next week.

A great shave with the Dorco Titan.

Have a great weekend gents.

That’s not a Rocket, that’s a Rocket HD -champion razor!

How long did you stand there Infront of your basin with it in your hands admiring it's beauty before you put it to your face and how long afterwards did you gently fondle it before you put it back in its beautiful box, it is a thing of beauty to behold. :)

Paul.

Paul.

My penis doesn't have a box never mind a beautiful one.

Oooops wrong subject! About three days. I went to bed with it. Woke up with it. Took it shopping and watched TV with it.

Then criminally shaved with it. Followed Theodoros' instructions. Stripped it down, took the blade out, cleaned it and placed it back in its box.

Currently sitting next to the pillow chatting away. I am apparently now 104th in the pillows' ranking of things to talk to.

Not the defend the Yaqi TFC too much - since I have one and an outstanding shaver it certainly is not - but just on this point: it does come apart for cleaning. ("Cleanability" for me is a rather important feature of a razor, which is why I did not come to love any TTOs so far.)
EDIT: sorry - yes, not completely. The bottom two pieces do not separate, but the top does come apart completely.
Actually the bottom will separate and can be reassembled just like the Progress Razor. That's how I installed my custom Brass handle on my Final Cut

Greetings,

A relaxing Sunday morning shave.

A very in-expensive eclectic shave set up where everything paired together wonderfully.

The RK Stainless felt super smooth & efficient on it's second outing....I may have mentioned before i find that some DE blades especially stainless & teflon coated ones start showing their true potential after a few shaves... This seems to be the case with the RK Stainless.

A enjoyable 2 pass + pick ups comfortable shave with no errors to report....Finishing the shave off with a few small dollops of Nivea Men Fresh Moisturising Gel.

My face is feeling smooth & smelling divine. ;)

Stay Safe, and enjoy your Sunday Ladies & Gentlemen.

Comparison Shave #1
Pre - Sainsbury's Luxury Soap, Bergamot & Nectarine
Brush - Erasmic Gelousy Bulb 20mm

Razor - Tatara Masamune / Ikon Bulldog Handle - Lambda Athena
Blade - Personna Med Prep in each
Post - Cold water Rinse

Today a comparison shave with the Tatara Masamune and Athena. I used the Athena on the left and the Masamune on the right - both fitted with a Med prep.
The Little Hybrid brush whipped up a very nice lather, this knot is so soft on the face and i am glad i found a home for it in the cheapo Erasmic handle.
So, Once lathered i completed the WTG pass on the left with the Athena, this razor is just so comfortable to use, with the blade held firmly there is no chatter and it just glides over the skin taking the stubble away with ease.
Moving on to the Tatara, again a lovely smooth pass, to me, very similar in feel and stubble reduction. No issue at all on first pass.
I rinsed and checked the results and there is a slight difference to the Tatara side when rubbing ATG, there seems to be the slightest feeling of rougher stubble left.
I then completed my ATG pass with each razor, again both feeling similar and both working very well.
My face is now as smooth as silk, with some areas around the Whirlpools and high cheek that could do with a bit attention.
As the Brush held enough of the good stuff for a full pass i decided to go for a full XTG pass as both razors are very comfortable to use and i did not feel i would derma-plane too deeply.
Job done and no negative issues to report.
The Finish - Excellent, a very close comfortable BBS all round.
A nice post shave to finish and no indication from the splash.
For me, the Athena, wins this one. Although they both shave about the same, for me, the user experience of the Athena is just that bit more luxurious.
Its those little touches.

Next Opponent the Karve SS with the C plate, another firm favourite from which i get similar results.
Stay safe and enjoy your day all.

Got excited about this - and so I tried again, and (as expected) failed to figure out how to do this... On Progress it was just a matter of pulling the bottom part out. On TFC this does not work as easily? ... is there a retainer ring on TFC that needs to be squeezed somehow?
