Rate The Last Film You Watched

Last weekend I watched Venom: Let there be carnage. It was okay, a tad amateurish. I also watched No Time to Die, not too bad or as woke as the media reported. This weekend I am both halfway through Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Red Notice, that kind of tells you how gripping they are and I don't suffer from attention deficit disorder...

I shall try and finish them midweek.

About

FX's A Christmas Carol is an original take on Charles Dickens' iconic ghost story by Steven Knight (Taboo, Peaky Blinders). The FX Original movie is a spine-tingling immersion into Ebenezer Scrooge's dark night of the soul. The remake stars Guy Pearce as "Ebenezer Scrooge," Andy Serkis as "Ghost of Christmas Past," Stephen Graham as "Jacob Marley," Charlotte Riley as "Lottie / Ghost of Christmas Present," Joe Alwyn as "Bob Cratchit," Vinette Robinson as "Mary Cratchit," Jason Flemyng as the "Ghost of Christmas Future," Kayvan Novak as "Ali Baba," Tiarna Williams as "Belinda Cratchit," Lenny Rush as "Tim Cratchit" and Johnny Harris as "Franklin Scrooge." The dark reimagining of the classic tale is written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and directed by Nick Murphy (The Awakening). It is executive produced by Knight, Tom Hardy, Ridley Scott, Dean Baker, David W. Zucker and Kate Crowe. FX's A Christmas Carol is produced by FX Productions in association with the BBC, Scott Free and Tom Hardy's Hardy Son & Baker.

"Cosmic Sin", a sci-fi movie starring Bruce Willis and Frank Grillo. Set in the 26th century, ostensibly about an alien race from the other side of the universe intent on destroying the human species.
I can only assume that almost all of the budget was blown on paying the 2 stars, although this was wasted money judging by (IMO) BW's worst-ever performance.
This must have left approximately £1.33 to cover salaries, scriptwriting , special effects and direction. At least that's what it looks like.
The worst sci-fi - no, the worst movie I have seen in decades.
And I love this genre, so I was more than prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt, but just couldn't.
I'm not even going to start listing the movie's many absurdities, but it's worth watching only as an example of how to f*ck up a good idea.

He's too old, he should grow all the hair and beard that he can and play a washed up old CIA guy living off the grid somewhere.

Alastair Sim.jpg

I'll always shed a tear watching Alastair Sim in Dickens Christmas Carol. Poor old Ebenezer Scrooge starts off so well, knee deep in cash, paying Bob Cratchet a generous 15 bob a week and makes a shovel of coal last a fortnight! Alas pestered by ghosts he goes mad lavishing Bob with a pay rise and a medical package. He lashes out money on Turkeys and in a final fit of madness visits relatives on Christmas day! A sad end.
