A close and very comfortable shave this morning, but, also, a testament to carelessness with a very sharp object. I gave myself a significant nick with one of the mildest razors due to a lack of attention navigating my facial lumps. Stypic to the rescue. Interestingly my spellcheck just changed “stypic” to “stupid”, that sums it up!

RazoRock Plissoft 24mm synth
Face lather
Yaqi Katana

RazoRock Santa Maria Del Fiore

A fantastic shave this afternoon. The Katana continues to be an inspiration: a seriously assertive piece of cutlery. If ever the adage of ‘letting the razor take the weight’ or ‘imagine you’re shaving the lather from your face’ applies to one razor, it would be this one.

I'm not doing this razor any favours, again with 4 days growth.
Found the Bolzano blade tuggy (but not uncomfortable) on the first pass. I needed a few extra touch-ups in my usual trouble spot under my chin. The ever dependable lather from MDC aided the shave with smashing results. :D

Have a great week Gents. I'm off to buy more stationery. :geek:

Cheers
Rob

Brush - Omega 10077
Soap - Signature Soaps Eboracum
Razor - Old Type
Blade - Gillette Winner Black (2)
Post - Denim

I've owned a number of boar brushes and they've generally lost their boar stench after a shave or two but this one still retains the scent of the barnyard!
The SS Eboracum is a great smelling soap but the combination of the peppermint and the barnyard scent was one that occasionally had my eyes watering, but the lather was beautiful, shiny slick - I find the Old Type works better with a slicker lather and with today's one there wasn't even the slightest bit of resistance in the shave; the combination of Old Type and Winner Black is one of the finest combinations of razor and blade I've stumbled on.
Even though it's early days I'm liking the brush though, it's scrubby with good backbone. I'm finding my cheap Omega boars seem to provide more pleasure than my synths even if they smell a bit funky to begin with.

Anyway chaps, have a good Sunday.

We've all had day's like this, don't beat yourself up over it, tomorrow's another day! :)

Sunday 7th February

One week into a month of vegan soaps, in contemplation of Veganuary (contemplation  ) even if I am lathering up exclusively for the month with my new Semogue SOC Butterscotch boar. I'm also restricting to SuperMax blades (okay, okay ... using up half an ASCO last night) and a small number of razors: Muhle Rocca, RazoRock Slant, Yaqi Katana & Gillette 1950s Tech.

I don't know what folks are expecting when they use these blades ...

With equal amounts of fear and trepidation, I tried out the very proletarian Vidyut/SuperMax Stainless (in the burgundy and yellow packet) and despite it being considered a real economy blade and a one-shot shave, I got three very consistent shaves out of it and I must also say, quite enjoyable. I'd put that one at 8/10.

This blade is the technically superior (or at least labelled as superior) Super Stainless of the same brand and line. The box says Super Stainless, the sleeve says Super Stainless, it's also double-wrapped with an inner sleeve (although no wax dabs) but the blade itself says, simply: "Stainless" ... exactly the same as the lesser Economy Stainless. Exactly the same.

In terms of shaving, it gave me the same smooth and irritation-free single pass shave that I got from the Economy Stainless, perhaps a little smoother, perhaps not. While it certainly looks like the same blade and feels like it shaves like the same blade, there is a price point difference and that is very important when it comes to the hierarchy of blades in the Indian street barber market. While it likely is the same blade, I'm going to muse that the difference is slight but it is in initial smoothness, probably that the "Super" Stainless is double-stropped, or something; an extra process that the Economy Stainless does without and so gets face stropped off the first few (scratchier) strokes.

In all, enjoyed!

Razor - Colonial General V2
Blade - Schick Proline
Brush - Wee whisky barrel
Soap - Captain Fawcett's
Scent - Eau Sauvage

As someone mentioned a couple of weeks back they noticed I wasn't quite up to my usual self of recent.

Last October as I mentioned on an SOTD at the time my father went in to hospital for a major cancer operation at the age of 88 and amazingly everything went wonderfully brilliant. Then the complications set in and for the past three months or so he has battled away against pneumonia and sadly last Sunday he passed away. This past week has been incredibly time consuming as I never once thought there would be so much ground to cover.

However I have finally found time to write here in what is a precious piece of 'me time' and as much as a get away from it all and to detract my mind towards something I enjoy. This wonderful corner of the internet and all you TSR folk and the wonderful support you have given in so many ways. So I dedicate this SOTD to my father.

My father was always a wet shaver from as long as I can remember and it was a sneaky first shave aged about 14 using an old Gillette of his which introduced me in to the world of shaving. I may not have followed the 'rules' for some of the time, but it was nice to return to blades which didn't come in the form of a cartridge. And here I am today thanks to dad, shaving away although I do think a 'real' shaving soap and a brush is a vast improvement over my original sin of a block of general bathing soap which every family member had used around their nether regions for several months.

Being an old sea-dog himself I thought the Captain Fawcett's was a perfect tribute and it just happens to be a superb soap with a wonderful fragrance and with all the shaving qualities you could ever want. The brush because I really do love the little whiskey barrel as much as I enjoy a single malt (nearly). And finally the Colonial V2 just to say, 'Dad, I've come along way since being a teenager with fluff issues.

A very fitting shave and wonderful results which I know my father would have enjoyed himself. Good on you big man. As my granddaughter said when told granddad Tom was an angel, 'he will be happy in the clouds'. He most certainly will and very nicely shaven as well.

Be well one and all on this terrific site and may all your shaves be as good as this one.

And why not? He may not have enjoyed the music as much as me but he would understand exactly where I was coming from. Have some Japanese ladies to end on
