SOTD 27th July

Brush - Yaqi Sagrada Familia
Soap - Proraso Green
Razor - Gillette Tech
Blade - Supermax Blue Diamond #4
Post - Proraso Green ASL and balm.

Wanted to give the Tech another bite of the cherry as it had the first use of this blade.
So glad I did. Smoother shave but equally as close. The Tech gave me the closest shaves this week. Zero feedback from the alum. Riding the topcap a bit more helped. Pretty sure I could have got another good shave out of this blade, but I'm keen to try the others.
Nice to use the Proraso Green products, really made my cheeks glow when the wife sent me to the shop in the wind and rain shortly after this shave!
Looking forward to trying the next blade in my 3 vintage razors.
Stay safe and enjoy your shaves.

Someone else had a leaf loan and said it was really good and difficult to mess-up with. I've been toying with various DE purchases over the last few months, and think the leaf is probably the one to get. It was never on my list as it looks a little bit archaic. The benefits seems to speak for themselves. You can still use DE blade, so get a good cost per shave, and you get a great shave in the mix. I shall be watching to see if you switch razors in the coming weeks. However, you may switch, only to convince yourself that the leaf is still the dogs danglies.
I have to say that the shave was so good that at the very least the Leaf will be my number one razor from now on, it even beats my EJDE89 that I've always used as a benchmark. As for the 'archaic' looks of the Leaf, I know what you mean, and that's why I described it as 'steampunk'...I love the way it looks as much as the shave it gives!;)

IT was me and the leaf really is fool proof, I tried to have a bad shave with it and I could not! :) P

Chris...Here's some logic:

1. The Leaf uses standard DE blades so the investment is primarily in the razor itself at the outset.
2. The Leaf is getting lots of praise from new and veteran SE/DE wet shavers.
3. It's better and cheaper (in the long run) than any cartridge system so people will switch from that system.
4. Wet shaving itself is becoming increasingly popular as people get fed up with the cost of cartridges.
5. Environmental issues will also drive sales away from disposables.
6. It will in all probability attract increasing demand from all parts of the shaving community, which is worldwide.
7. The Leaf will also appeal to tech and design-conscious types who might consider it iconic - a future classic.
8. As its reputation grows, so will demand ...and so will its price.

Conclusion: Buy one now

After what I did to you with the Rex, I'm not sure I can give you the satisfaction of enabling me. I'll just have to get through the sleepless nights without this razor ;)

I don't know if you do this donnie, but with hard soaps I always prime them with very hot water for a minute or two before the shave. If the soap surface is right at the top of the pot I literally sink the whole pot under hot water, but if it's been used so there's a 'bowl' effect in the soap surface, I just cover the top with hot water. I then tip all the water away before loading the brush. I have never had a problem loading any brush with any soap by doing that. After the shave I always rinse the whole pot and soap surface with cold water and let it stand to dry before putting the lid back on.
I hope I'm not teaching my grandmother to suck eggs! If not, I hope it helps(y)

Cheers for the reply and for your info. I actually do a similar thing myself, I put on warm water on the soap for a minute or two (it's something I do for any soap in a tub) before loading and it generally does a good job, but today my poor lather was mainly to user error!

There have been a few razors released over the last few years that use a half razor blade (Rocnel, Focus, Razorock) but they've all seemed to suffer from a few gripes here and there, but it seems the Leaf razor have overcome a lot of the issues of the other ones.

It looks like a great product for sure, and enjoy your new razor Greybeard!
