SOTD : Saturday 31th August to Friday 6th September

4/9/19

Birthday SOTD today for which I went for my favourite items., ones which after I assembled are probably not the most exciting ones but it probably reflects something about my personality!

Brush - Zenith Euro X
Soap - Vitos Red & Green
Razor - Ball End Tech
Blade - Gillette Platinum (1)
Post - Witch Hazel
AS - Gillette Cool Wave

Aside from being my birthday, it's around the time 3rd full year since I first started DE shaving and as enjoyable a hobby as it is for learning a lot about the different components involved but I've found the routines/rituals for shaving to have had a great impact for my psychological and physical health. For the latter, one of the reasons why I seem to remember the date for when I started DE shaving as I stopped smoking cigarettes around the same time, as I remember replacing the ritual of my morning cigarette for having a shave instead. I've also found the routine/ritual of wet shaving to be very important for my mental health as well, however slight it might be the effort of trying to look the best I can every morning I shave has been beneficial, some days less than others but even on those days even the slightest difference however negligible is one nonetheless.

Anyway chaps, enjoy your shaves/this wonderful hobby and have a great day.

...great post and sentiment...(y)

RR GC .68
SOC Taj Mistura
Speick
Thayers Astringent Witch Hazel
Eau Savage

...the .68 appears to have lost out to the .84 in terms of popularity. Both are great shavers for sure but the .68 really does strike a great balance for an every day mild but effective shaver. It requires more familiarity than the .84 to get the best from it, but once dialled-in it is superb. A beautiful close shave this morning where the razor really shone...

Och man use the soap stick holder. You can't worry about what might never happen. You are denying it it's primary purpose!

6/9/19

Soap - London Oatcake Almond Cream
Brush - Zenith Euro X
Razor - Ball End Tech
Blade - Astra SP
Post - Witch Hazel/Intesa Glacial Lotion
AS - Bens Bay Rum Mentholated

@honeywoodjohn very kindly sent a sample of London Oatcake Almond Cream (thanks you greatly) which I used for today's shave, and it really is an excellent performer, and to my surprise it was a rare occasion when using an independent soap/soap with some kind of scent didn't burn my face! The soap felt superb on the face, and the post shave feel is excellent as well. Even though I didn't use enough product the lather was on the thin side of things, there was more than enough slickness to get me through the shave. Really superb scent as well.

Anyway chaps, have a good start to the weekend as it is almost with us....

Hi Barry,
Have been looking at some of the Pictures in the background of your SOTD. Noted your proximity to the Capital, you have not by any chance been "Borrowing " some originals from the Art Galleries nearby ;):(
Have a good Weekend- Mike
Hello Mike. They are only short-term loans, I promise.
I hope you have a good weekend too.
Cheers
Barry

Since my last post I snuck in another road shave which included my Mergress, Stirling Sharp Dressed Man etc. Very nice yet uneventful as it should be. Back in the confines of Villa Somnos and today's shave brought me to the Rockwell R1. Much maligned by many who claim it to be inefficient and the like. “I need a Fatboy on “9” to get a close shave” some say. Well, loaded with a Personna Platinum today I figured I would revisit this one.

Soap or cream of the day really, the venerable Proraso Green which some how has eluded my grasp for awhile....(shhhh, that soap cabinet is deeper than Davy Jones' Locker)...so it was found today and immediately put to service. Haven't bowl lathered of late so it was very nice to grab the Fine Accruements lathering bowl and whip up a monster ton of lather. The 59 was my first Simpson and still a favourite. What a great scent...missed it!

So to work with the Rockwell R1 and through a wonderful three pass BBS shave! So now this one is a keeper and will most likely accompany me on the next vacay. No issues with efficiency here.

Friday my good friends, the weekend approaches! Have a great day, safe travels and happy shaves!
