trying out the de blades in my sampler pack

hey people so i thought instead of creating a thread dedicated to a specific brand de blade everytime i try one out, i thought it would make more sense just to create a main thread with all my posts sharing my experiences, thoughts and opinions on the de blades i've just tried out

just to give you an idea some blades i've already tried the top off my head are the following, feather, gillette nacets, wilkinson swords, astra sp's, derby premium and a few more prior to getting this sample pack...

now just want to start by saying even though i've had the sampler pack for a while i just kept finding myself going back to using the gillette nacets even though i had over a hundred and thirty blades to try out lol,
suppose it just goes to show how highly i rate the gillette nacets

anyways so the first blade i tried is the voskhod, honestly im so disappointed in this blade,
i heard many good things on youtube and forums about these blades in particular so was kinda gutted when i found them to about average and nothing special whatsoever but saying that i've read mixed reports and some blades being inconsistent so God knows what to think lol

second blade is the BIC Chrome Platinum, very impressed with this blade, sharp and smooth, i rate it up there with my favourite blade gillette nacets and im having difficulty picking a winner between the two tbh

i did try out the voskhod in the gillette slim adjustable and the bic in the henson medium razors,
but to make it fair from now on i'll test every blade in the henson medium de razor,
well number one because i love the razor but also because it has the angle built in so i suppose it will make testing the blades especially against the grain easier as im a head shaver

so i'll also be using arko shaving sticks too as i love this stuff and yes for the record i dont find anything unpleasant about the smell lol!

shaving brush will be my pearl synthetic 30mm knot

so yea next shave will be with the voskhod in the henson razor then from there onwards i'll try out another brand de blade :)

I got them from razor blades club thanks to recommendation from @Boycie83

Off the top of my head was just under £30 quid for 130 blades plus about £3 for shipping

This was actually just before brexit so no idea how much that would cost now tbh mate but I think they're based in EU maybe Sweden if I'm not mistaken but I could be wrong mate
 
If I can find it I'll try to take pics of the de razor blade before and after the shave with my digital microscope
 
so todcay i gave the treet black beauty ago, honestly after the first stroke i thought maybe im onto something but the more i used it the more i realised its not sharp enough and the smoothness is a bit meh to be honest, i'd rate it as an average blade at best as it caused me some irritation tbh but that was only whilst shaving, feels okay now, would i personally get a 100 of these blades? honest answer is no

hey so just a quick question, I'd like to try out the Kai de blade in my yaqi tile for the next use, was wondering how can I tell if it's the Kai blade specifically?

From what I remember and I could be wrong but doesn't the Kai blade come in a white paper wrapper with no logo/printing on the de blade?

thanks for such a kind offer but im pretty sure i got it in my sampler pack because i think i remember seeing it in there but if i cant find it, ill drop you a PM many thanks saj :)

so yea forgot to post, i had a tuck of polsilver,
this blade is very sharp and smooth i dont think its sharp as a feather or bic but i'd say its slightly sharper then a nacet,
the nacet is a top blade and one of my favourites so yea defo a fan of the polsilver so far

used the polsilver in the yaqi tile
 
so todays head shave was with the yaqi tile with the kai de blade, this is a sharp blade and smooth i defo like it
 
todays shave i thought i'd try out the astra stainless steel blue, never used these but used the platinums before

so its not the sharpest blade but defo sharp enough and not the smoothest

i did get some irritation on one or two spots but its calming down now, i do think thats down to the blade and not the razor as ive used the razor with a few blades now

i think if i remember correctly the astra sp greens performed about the same but gave me a bit of irritation too

i'd probably say the astra blus and greens are about the same, i could maybe see why some prefer the blue ever so slightly

overall id say both the astras are a medium sort of blade in terms of sharpness and smoothest, not the best but defo usable

next blade i used was the lord platinum in the yaqi tile,
wasnt sure what to expect as ive never used any lord blades but this was really nice blade, sharp and smooth

rate it highly and would consider buying some if i ever had too
 
Good one to start with @saj1985 ... you've got a good few other Lord house blades in that sampler under Shark, ASCO and other brand names.

Although sharp and smooth, it's actually not one that I like. There are a certain number of platinum blades that give me itchy irritation and this is one of them. I rather excitedly tried an ASCO Platinum not so long back ... and, duh! It's Lord Platinum under a different brand, of course, and gave me the same itchiness.

After using the lord platinum I look forward to trying the rest of the lord de blades

I got two shark blades so will hopefully take part in shark week over at B&B lol
