SOTD Saturday 14th to Friday 20th March 2015

Third day with the Famex razor.
A very nice shave. It's aggressive but not overly so.

Razor: Famex - this time w/ a Nacet handle
Blade: Rapira
Brush: Vie-Long Horse. I still really don't like it...
Soap: 3P (best almond scented croap there is)
A/S: The Veg

Blue Stratos AS
Maca Root Face Protector
Diesel OTB

Closer shave tonight with the Pro blade, a little more irritation but no more so than a close DE shave. I think the weight makes a big difference over the smaller Schicks. I don't think that this would make me sell all my DEs though, but it is a superb razor....
(I'm not happy with the photo at all, but CBA taking another :) )

WEDNESDAY EVENING

Razor: Woltmann & Elberfeld 7/8
Strops: Waterhouse linen\leather, Westholme Cordovan
Brush: Omega 48
Soap: Stirling frozen tundra
AS: Lucky Tiger
Balm: GFT sandalwood skin food

Picked up this straight as a cheapie off Fleabay a while ago.

It was described as having a bevel bigger on one side than the other. It might do, but I can't really see it, and it really does deliver a superb shave.

I think I'm coming to the realisation that I like the bigger straights. Like maybe 7/8 and above, maybe 6/8 at a push. Anything less is too small for me.

Pre: RazoRock menthol/lime soap
Soap: Le Père Lucien
Brush: M&F Chief, 26mm "Heritage" 2-band
Razor: Edwin Jagger Barley Chatsworth
Blade: Feather (2)
Post: Thayer's witch hazel, followed by Myrsol Antesol & Emulsion

Feather as d2, polsilver SI #4, omega 48, last of the wickham bay rum, Steve's bay rum a/s, m+s amber balm.

I think I've found my nirvana - love this razor and blade. The omega is an amazing brush and what can I say about wickham's that hasn't already been said? Hurry back Darren! Hope you're doing well.

Thurs 19th March 2015

Pre wash Neutrogena Glycerine Bar
Omega 11126
MWF
Gem Push Button
Gem S/S [ 7 ]
Alum Rub/Rinse Off
Nivea A/S Balm
Myrsol Antesol A/S

1 Blade= 7 Shaves.
On day 7, used PB a mild razor- which is ideal for those with sensitive skin.
Actually apart from neckline, was a really comfortable, irritation free shave.

Liking MWF a lot, it lathers well even in Kent , damp not wet brush is essential.

Thursday 19th
Razor - GEM Micromatic (on loan)
Blade - GEM Personna SE
Brush - Simpson Chubby 2
Soap - Soap Commander lime and Patchouli
Post - Geoffrey Beene Grey flannel

Think the GEM may take a little practice!

Phenomenal!

Paul, that thing looks like some kinda Victorian style egg slicer. You know the one with those thin wires that go through the eggs real easy and gives you maybe 6-8 slices. Looks like a quail egg would fit nicely.

So that's what I'm doing wrong ...

A very nice setup, Paul. How do you like the MdC?

I use my Muhle synthetic a lot. They are astonishingly effective.

Sapone : WSO Signature
Pennello : Simpson Chubby 1 - 2 band Super
Rasoio : Thiers Issard Spartacus 6/8
Strop : Paciccella
AS : Floid Vigoroso

Stahly head on bulldog handle
Gillette 7 o'clock Super Platinum (black, second shave)
Vulfix 404
Camelot shaving soap, pressed into a bowl
Myrsol Emulsion

Still BBS and smooth even on the second shave and being left in a humid bathroom for three or four days

Thanks, Paul :D

I'm going to have to have a few more shaves with MdC. I've done a handful of test lathers with the brushes I have and get a good lather - face lathering, too, as with this shave. I like the smell, but there is a mild irritation on the face. Whether that is just how I am at the moment I don't know ... more time with it, I think.

I didn't fall in love, but then I didn't want to sell it immediately. Very similar to Mitchell's (which, I think it's no secret that I adore!) in behaviour, feel and post-shave condition.

The Muhle Silvertip Fibre is a super brush! Soft, good spring for bowl lathering, not too much to make face lathering messy, looks great and of course there's that killer no soaking needed and it'll dry off with a few flicks and wipe on a towel. Oo-er! A real pleasure to use.

I still have a soft spot for my Kent Infinity, though - it does a lot of things well and that which it doesn't can be forgiven over price. The Muhle, everything well.
